John Boyega is hoping for longer fight scenes for Finn in Star Wars 9. As Lucasfilm successfully relaunched Star Wars in 2015, they did so by securing multiple talented leads. While nostalgia pointed to many wanting to see what Luke, Han, and Leia had been up to, The Force Awakens introduced and focused on its new leads. Boyega filled one of those roles as Finn, where he had excellent chemistry with both Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Oscar Isaac (Poe). After a breakout role, fans were understandably eager to see how he’d continue on in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.Instead of once again being a favorite part, Finn’s arc was the subject of much scrutiny. His mission to Canto Bight felt out of place to some and not everyone bought into his relationship with newcomer Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran). It’s likely that Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm, will not want to delay finding a new director for Episode IX. It’s likely that Lucasfilm will try to use … [Read more...] about Who Should Replace Colin Trevorrow As Star Wars 9 Director?
J.J. Abrams confirms Star Wars: Episode IX has a script in place and the project begins filming at the end of July. This is a big development for the sequel trilogy finale, which saw a massive upheaval last year after original director Colin Trevorrow left due to creative differences. Abrams, returning to finish what he started with The Force Awakens, teamed up with Chris Terrio for what was the fourth pass at an Episode IX screenplay. Fortunately, things have been going very smoothly since Abrams and Terrio took over, and now Lucasfilm can focus on moving to the production phase. After Abrams came onboard, Episode IX was delayed to December 2019, a move that also pushed back the filming schedule. A summer start date has long been reported, with June the presumed window. As it turns out, Abrams will begin rolling the cameras a little later than that. Star Wars 9 starts shooting in July.
