A /first-star-wars-stand-alone-movie-to-center-on-yoda/rumor from yesterday claimed that Yoda was going to be the first character in the Star Wars universe to get his own stand-alone spin-off movie. Shortly thereafter, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Disney and Lucasfilm were working on a series of one shot movies that would be based on popular preexisting characters, and that these films would be staggered amongst the release of the new trilogy, which kicks off with Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015. Amongst all of this news from yesterday was the rumor that Boba Fett and Han Solo would be getting their own one-off movies, and that George Lucas himself had pitched an adventure revolving around Jabba the Hutt. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger today provided a closer look at what’s in store at the Shanghai Disney Resort which is due to open in spring 2016. Divvied into six themed worlds, the $5.5B Middle Kingdom park will include attractions based on Star Wars , the Marvel universe and Pirates Of The Caribbean , among others. Each of those properties has upcoming films with ambitions to release in China where Avengers: Age Of Ultron recently made over $235M at the box office. Nevertheless, the park will be “authentically Disney and distinctively Chinese,” Iger said in Shanghai. The Star Wars Launch Bay is described as a celebration of the Star Wars galaxy where guests will meet heroes and villains, board iconic intergalactic set-pieces, view props and memorabilia from the most recent episode, and be immersed in the Skywalker story through a state-of-the-art cinematic experience. The 18th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) Organizing Committee and Walt Disney Pictures today announced that all six Star Wars films will screen at the upcoming Shanghai International Film Festival. The intention is to whet the appetite of Chinese moviegoers for the JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18. SIFF runs June 13-21. So that means Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace ; Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones ; Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith ; Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope ; Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back ; and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi are also showing and this is the first Chinese screenings of Episodes IV, V, and VI in cinemas. This week, it added a major promotional boost as superstar Lu Han was unveiled as the film’s official Middle Kingdom ambassador. With the moviegoing demographic in China skewing increasingly younger, the former member of boy band EXO looks like a marketer’s dream. He’s got a social outreach that includes nearly 12M followers on microblogging site Weibo (plus a Guinness record for the most comments on a single post) and a large international fan base. Disney is pulling out all the stops to ensure Chinese audiences are well primed for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens , staging a massive event last night on the Great Wall. The trailer for the film , which was released Monday in most of the world, debuted on the Juyongguan section of the Wall on Tuesday night local time. As the promo drew to a close, 500 Stormtroopers appeared and four Chinese characters, pronounced in English as “yuan,” “li,” “jue,” “xing” and meaning “The Force Awakens,” shone from four beacon towers at the landmark.
