Cellular provider T-Mobile is paying for advice from former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on their upcoming merger with Sprint, according to a Wall Street Journal report. On Thursday, T-Mobile announced that it hired Turnberry Solutions back in August to help secure federal approval of the merging of the two companies in a takeover deal. Along with that hire came Lewandowski, according to their own statement obtained by WSJ. “Corey Lewandowski is now affiliated with that firm and they have offered perspective to T-Mobile on a variety of topics, including the pending transaction,” the company said in a statement made months after the deal was struck. The linking of Turnberry Solutions to the former campaign manager is noteworthy because previously Lewandowski has denied a connection to iti, despite a Politico report linking him to the firm from September, one month after the T-Mobile deal was struck. It also appears that Lewandowski, whose exact role … [Read more...] about T-Mobile Hired Corey Lewandowski-Linked Lobbying Firm for Advice on Sprint Merger

Sprint, T-Mobile have to sell $26.5B deal to antitrust cops
NEW YORK (AP) — To gain approval for their $26.5 billion merger agreement, T-Mobile and Sprint aim to convince antitrust regulators that there is plenty of competition for wireless service beyond Verizon and AT&T. The deal announced Sunday would combine the nation’s third- and fourth-largest wireless companies and bulk them up to a similar size to Verizon and AT&T, the industry giants. But the companies argued that the combination would allow them to better compete not only with those two rivals but also with Comcast and others as the wireless, broadband and video industries converge. “This isn’t a case of going from 4 to 3 wireless companies — there are now at least 7 or 8 big competitors in this converging market,” T-Mobile chief executive John Legere said in a statement. He would be the CEO of the combined company. T-Mobile and Sprint have been considering a combination for years. But a 2014 attempt fell apart amid resistance from the … [Read more...] about Sprint, T-Mobile have to sell $26.5B deal to antitrust cops

Sprint, T-Mobile agree to merge, potentially reducing wireless carrier options to 3
NEW YORK — T-Mobile and Sprint are trying again to combine in a deal that would reshape the U.S. wireless landscape, bringing it down to three major cellphone companies. The deal announced Sunday would help the companies slash costs and could make them a stronger competitor to the larger AT&T and Verizon. But consumers might see higher prices because the combined company wouldn’t have to offer as many promotions to lure customers. The proposed all-stock deal values Sprint at about $59 billion and the combined company at $146 billion. Sprint dropped its bid for T-Mobile more than three years ago after running into concerns about wireless competition in the Obama administration. The two were poised to combine in October, but that deal was called off, too. Sign up for BREAKING NEWS Emails privacy policy Thanks for subscribing!
