Associated Press Published 7:41 PM EDT Mar 24, 2019 Detroit – The Detroit Institute of Arts is continuing a yearlong celebration of the “Arts of Asia” with a two-day event to showcase the art and culture of India. “Celebrate India” takes place April 6-7 at the museum, where film, music, dancing, poetry readings and yoga workshops are part of the festival. The museum’s Director Salvador Salort-Pons says in a statement that the event “allows our visitors to expand their experience of India and Southeast Asian arts and culture.” He notes the newly installed Robert and Katherine Jacobs Asian Wing offers a unique look at history and culture. A part of the event, India’s ambassador to the U.S. Harsh Vardhan Shringla is scheduled to deliver a keynote address the afternoon of April 6 at the Detroit Film Theatre. A multi-billion dollar battle to become the ultimate “super app” of southeast Asia is heating up. Whether it’s booking a taxi, restaurant or making a payment, companies such as Grab, WeChat and Go-Jek are offering apps that integrate a variety of services to organise almost every aspect of a user’s life. The region may be far from homogenous in terms of language and culture, but a swelling middle class combined with the tumbling cost of phones and data, have created fertile ground for super apps. According to Google and Temasek, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, the digital economy in southeast Asia is expected to be worth $240bn by 2025 - a rich prize for companies which craft convenient apps...
