Monied production company Ivanhoe Pictures was launched in Toronto earlier this year by Ivanhoe Capital Corporation principal Robert Friedland, GreeneStreet president and co-founder John Penotti, and Beijing-based Ray Chen, founder and chairman of Beijing Premiere Media Company. At launch, the company said it would finance and produce film and TV projects that have broad global audience appeal, initially seeding opportunities in America and Asia, focusing on China, India, Korea and Japan. Fox International Productions , which has a lucrative local-language business in Asia and elsewhere, is now teaming with Ivanhoe in a four-year, multi-picture co-financing deal for homegrown movies in India, Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan. Legendary Pictures has invested in Library Pictures International, a content financing entity organized earlier this year by CAA Media Finance to support filmmakers and distributors in the international market by investing in local language production slates. EXCLUSIVE : In a development that is a fitting epitaph for a 2020 Sundance Film Festival acquisitions market dominated by streamers, Deadline hears that the fest’s biggest sale title — the WW rights deal for Palm Springs — was actually worth substantially more than what was reported last week by winning bidders Hulu and NEON. Sources familiar with the heated multi-bidder auction said that the value of the deal was actually closer to $22 million, far and away the biggest Sundance deal of all-time. That’s much larger than the $17.5 million and 69 cents Hulu and NEON said they paid to slightly beat the $17.5 million Searchlight Sundance record for The Birth of a Nation .
