Paramount Pictures is the latest studio to slash the 90-day theatrical release window. ViacomCBS recently announced that the films releasing with the studio will now arrive on Paramount+ after 45 days in theatres. The studio's upcoming releases include Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 and Emily Blunt's A Quiet Place Part II. The announcement made on Wednesday (February 24) came after other studios like Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. reached similar agreements with theatre chains in the US. Warner Bros.' Warner Media has also opted for a hybrid release for its upcoming platform HBO Max, which will stream films alongside theatrical releases. Coming back to Paramount, the studio in 2020 had to sacrifice on theatrical releases and opted to sell films' streaming rights to services like Netflix and Amazon. EXCLUSIVE : In a development that is a fitting epitaph for a 2020 Sundance Film Festival acquisitions market dominated by streamers, Deadline hears that the fest’s biggest sale title — the WW rights deal for Palm Springs — was actually worth substantially more than what was reported last week by winning bidders Hulu and NEON. Sources familiar with the heated multi-bidder auction said that the value of the deal was actually closer to $22 million, far and away the biggest Sundance deal of all-time. That’s much larger than the $17.5 million and 69 cents Hulu and NEON said they paid to slightly beat the $17.5 million Searchlight Sundance record for The Birth of a Nation . Under the pact, Rogers and Bliss will develop new programming for the WarnerMedia streamer.
