August 6, 2022 by deadline.com

A former local BBC radio host has been found guilty of stalking four people including television and radio broadcaster Jeremy Vine. Alex Belfield, who now broadcasts on his own YouTube channel, was found guilty of four stalking charges at Nottingham Crown Court In his evidence, Vine called Belfield “the Jimmy Savile of trolling,” referring to the disgraced later BBC presenter who whose targeting of hundreds of victims of abuse during his long career came to light after his death. Vine, who has a radio show on the BBC and a TV show on Channel 5 said that Belfield had waged a campaign of abuse against via social media and YouTube. He added: “I have in the past had a physical stalker who followed me. That is a picnic compared to this guy. ‘Prey’ Gives the ‘Predator’ Franchise Its Long-Awaited Masterpiece

August 4, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

“A long time ago, it is said,” an unseen voice says, “a monster came here.” The year is 1719; neither Arnold Schwarzenegger nor Jesse “The Body” Ventura will be so much as a glimmer in anyone’s eyes for centuries. The place is the Northern Great Plains of what will one day be called the United States of America. For the Comanche Nation, this is home: the forests where they hunt, the streams where they fish, the ground where they find roots for medicine. It’s where Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young woman, wants to prove she’s as good as — if not better than — her male peers who go out into the wilderness with bows and arrows, the tribe’s next-gen warriors armed with weapons and purpose. It’s also a place that attracts invaders, notably French trappers who’ve been killing the local buffalo and leaving those iron bear-traps the Comanche have seen strewn around. And it’s where, one day, a visitor comes crashing out of the sky. No one sees him, not at first — you don’t see the thing … [Read more...] about ‘Prey’ Gives the ‘Predator’ Franchise Its Long-Awaited Masterpiece

Albuquerque Police Reveal Suspect Arrested in Muslim Murders

August 9, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Police in Albuquerque have announced that they have worked with the FBI to arrest a primary suspect, 51-year-old Muhammad Syed, in the murders of at least two Muslim men in the area. According to authorities, Syed was arrested after police identified his car as having been at the scenes of the crimes and found the gun used in both those killings in Syed’s home. So far, he is being charged for two of the homicides, though he has not yet appeared in court. In recent days, some city residents have been scared to even leave their homes. After three Muslim men were gunned down in less than two weeks, it seemed like a possible serial killer was stalking Muslims in the area. Police believe the three shootings — along with a fourth last November — are connected, and that the killer or killers have intentionally targeted Muslims. Before the fourth attack, in an Aug. 4 press release and request for tips, police said that, in each instance, the killer had “ambushed their victims with … [Read more...] about Albuquerque Police Reveal Suspect Arrested in Muslim Murders

Michael Mann On The Long Odysseys of ‘Heat’ And ‘Ferrari’ – Toronto Q&A

September 16, 2015 by deadline.com

EXCLUSIVE : “So you write a story about a movie I’m not doing, and you make the first time Al Pacino and Robert De Niro share the screen together an afterthought?” That’s my recollection of the first words that Michael Mann ever said to me, after I wrote a Weekly Variety column about how he and Leonardo DiCaprio were scrapping their James Dean movie, and oh yeah, Mann would instead direct this crime drama called Heat . Boy, was Mann right. Last night in Toronto, he and cast members Pacino, De Niro, Val Kilmer and Ashley Judd celebrated the 20th anniversary of his seminal Los Angeles crime thriller, one that took about 20 years to go from script to screen. To honor the occasion, he took a trip down memory lane with Deadline, and filled us in on his next film, the one in which Christian Bale will play Italian automobile magnate Enzo Ferrari. That project is similar to Heat, each an epic-sized drama that took forever to solve the creative challenges. Re-watching Heat to … [Read more...] about Michael Mann On The Long Odysseys of ‘Heat’ And ‘Ferrari’ – Toronto Q&A
