The celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company at Disneyland begins today with the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a new feature that marks the first time the beloved mice have starred in a ride-through attraction at the Anaheim resort. The attraction is located in Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown, which will reopen March 8 following its year-long closure on March 9, 2022, for the land’s makeover. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway combines sets, audio-animatronics figures, animated media and projection-mapping techniques, all synchronized with trackless vehicles and a musical score calling back to Disney Television Animation’s Emmy Award-winning “ Mickey Mouse ” cartoon shorts. The attraction begins at the El CapiTOON Theater – a pun on the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard – where Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway transports guests into what is billed as “the wacky and unpredictable cartoon world of … [Read more...] about Disneyland Celebrates Disney’s 100th Anniversary With New Mickey & Minnie Ride-Through Attraction

Senate Judiciary Committee Sets Hearing Following Taylor Swift Ticket Snafu
The crash of Ticketmaster ’s website amid an overload of demand for Taylor Swift tickets has led to a Senate hearing, as lawmakers seize on the incident to scrutinize a host of business practices in the ticketing industry. The full Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing for next Tuesday — That’s The Ticket: Promoting Competition and Protecting Consumers in Live Entertainment — following the November debacle in which Swift fans were locked out of presales and a public sale was canceled. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who chairs the antitrust subcommittee, said in a statement that “the issues within America’s ticketing industry were made painfully obvious when Ticketmaster’s website failed hundreds of thousands of fans hoping to purchase tickets for Taylor Swift’s new tour, but these problems are not new. For too long consumers have faced high fees, long waits and website failures, and Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company faces inadequate pressure … [Read more...] about Senate Judiciary Committee Sets Hearing Following Taylor Swift Ticket Snafu
Broadway Box Office Slips As Wintertime Ticket Prices Drop
With a slimmed-down roster and many productions offering 2 for 1 tickets during the annual Broadway Week promotion, Broadway box office was down 24% for the week ending January 22, with the 23-show total at $25,835,362. Attendance of 204,847 was off 17% from the previous week when 29 shows were on the boards. Despite the overall drop, the percentage of seats filled remained at about 93% of capacity, consistent with the previous week. Average ticket price was down considerably though – those 2-for-1s kicking in – with the average price of $126 down a full $10 from the previous week. The annual Broadway Week winter promotion (which actually lasts several weeks) seems to have had an impact – 18 of the 23 shows were at 90% of capacity or more, even as ticket prices fell. Filling all their seats were MJ (grossing $1,654,435) and The Phantom of the Opera ($2,227,185). The sole previewing show, Pictures From Home starring Nathan Lane, Danny Burstein and Zoë Wanamaker, … [Read more...] about Broadway Box Office Slips As Wintertime Ticket Prices Drop
Live Nation President Apologies For Taylor Swift Ticket Debacle, Defends Ticketmaster Competition At Senate Hearing
The breakdown of Ticketmaster ’s sale of Taylor Swift tickets last year triggered a high-profile Senate hearing on Tuesday, as a top executive from parent Live Nation Entertainment found himself apologizing for the debacle yet defending competition in the industry. Joe Berchtold, president and CFO of Live Nation Entertainment , told the Senate Judiciary Committee , “We apologize to the fans. We apologize to Taylor Swift. we need to do better and we will do better.” He blamed the breakdown on a bot attack, while pledging to work with senators to address issues in the industry. But lawmakers are questioning Live Nation Entertainment’s adherence to a consent decree that governs its 2011 merger with Ticketmaster, a combination that united promotion, venue and ticketing, and raised concerns that the company would use its market power to stifle competition from rivals. At the packed hearing held in one of Congress’ largest hearing rooms in the Hart office building, … [Read more...] about Live Nation President Apologies For Taylor Swift Ticket Debacle, Defends Ticketmaster Competition At Senate Hearing
Joe Biden To Call For Congress To Place Limits On Concert Ticket Fees, TV And Internet Providers’ Early Termination Charges
President Joe Biden wants limits placed on concert ticket fees and TV and internet providers’ early termination charges, as the White House seizes on the practices as a sign of lack of competition in various business sectors. Biden will announce the proposals at a meeting of the President’s Competition Council on Wednesday. Also being highlighted is a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule to curb excessive credit card late fees, and a Department of Transportation rule to require airlines and booking sites to show the full price of an airline ticket upfront. Additional proposals would be part of a Junk Fee Prevention Act, legislation that targets an array of fees placed on consumers. The White House’s focus on concert ticket prices follows a Senate hearing last week that focused on that issue and competition in the ticketing industry, as lawmakers grilled Live Nation President Joe Berchtold about subsidiary Ticketmaster . The company reportedly is under … [Read more...] about Joe Biden To Call For Congress To Place Limits On Concert Ticket Fees, TV And Internet Providers’ Early Termination Charges
