Obama Rips Cable News & Joel McHale Bombs At White House Correspondents’ Dinner
5 th UPDATE – FINAL: (See McHale and Obama videos here and here ) If last year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner with headliner Conan O’Brien was white bread bland, tonight’s event was just painful. In way way over his head, Joel McHale stumbled and sputtered through a routine that got more moans and groans from the packed Washington Hilton ballroom than laughs. With failed one-liners about runaway production, Robert De Niro ’s career choices, Jessica Simpson ’s historical knowledge, the Kardashians’ sex lives, George Clooney ’s political affiliations, Bill Clinton’s qualifications as a grandfather and a slew of other poorly conceived and badly executed jokes, the Community star left the stage after 30-minutes to weak applause from the 2,600 guests. At least he made President Obama ’s speech and his now standard swipes at cable news look good in comparison. Obama’s sharpest line of the night came courtesy of Netflix when Obama sympathized with … [Read more...] about Obama Rips Cable News & Joel McHale Bombs At White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Tonys 2018: Snubs, Surprises & Analysis From ‘Harry Potter’ Magic To “Let It Go”
I suspect we’ll be seeing more than one silly and misleading “frozen out” reference in coverage of this year’s Tony Awards nominations – starting with that one – but the absence of Frozen in the leading actress categories (Patti Murin and Caissie Levy), and director (Michael Grandage) from the 2018 nominations roster has gotta be a sting for Disney, even with major consolations like nods for Best musical, book and original score. Though critical praise for Frozen was hardly unanimous, I’d have thought Levy’s performance of “Let It Go” would have provided safe passage. Same for Murin’s charming, barely-leaves-the-stage performance as the underdog Princess Anna, and I’d have nominated either over…But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s a closer, first-reaction look at some of the categories. Just my opinions, of course, and I might very well be fine-tuning and re-thinking right up until the trophies are handed out June 10. Best Performance by an Actor in a … [Read more...] about Tonys 2018: Snubs, Surprises & Analysis From ‘Harry Potter’ Magic To “Let It Go”

Adult Swim has handed an early Season 2 renewal to animated comedy series Royal Crackers . The move comes ahead of the series premiere on Sunday, April 2. In addition to Ruiz, the series also stars Andrew Santino, Jessica St. Clair, David Gbori, Maile Flanagan and Fred Tatasciore. “Television has done a great job exploring how families clash over the fate of oil, media or cattle empires, but until now, no one has had the courage to address the savory snack food industry,” explained Michael Ouweleen, President of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. Per the logline, Royal Crackers was once the king of snacks, but the empire is crumbling. When the family patriarch, tyrannical company founder Theodore Hornsby ends up in a “super coma,” the rest of the Hornsbys will take their lack of talent and business acumen and try to … [Read more...] about ‘Royal Crackers’ Renewed For Season 2 By Adult Swim
‘The Night Agent’ Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix
That was quick — a day after Netflix unveiled record opening weekend viewership for The Night Agent , the streamer announced that it has picked up a 10-episode second season of the political conspiracy action-thriller series from creator Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television. This marks one of the fastest renewal decisions for Netflix, which typically waits for data on a series’ 28-day performance before pulling the trigger. “The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world,” said series creator, executive producer and showrunner Ryan. “To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.” Inspired by the novel of the same name by … [Read more...] about ‘The Night Agent’ Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix
