An Oscar statue goes missing in Hassan Nazer ’s amiable feature Winners , which had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival . After the Oscar is inadvertently left in a taxi in Iran, the prize is sent to the post office, where it’s once again lost by a well-meaning postal worker. While he insists that it must have fallen out of his car in a rural location, the authorities insist that the man is detained, assuming theft, until the statue is located. And so there’s a ripple of urgency running through this otherwise gently paced comedy-drama. It’s no spoiler to reveal that the Oscar ends up in the hands of two children: nine-year-old Yahya and his friend Leyla. We’re let in on their secret as they hide the “doll” from their friends and, amusingly, put it in a dress to preserve its modesty (“It’s so Leyla won’t see him naked,” explains the boy). Courtesy of MLB A spin down the famous slide at American Family Field on Wednesday ended up in a trip to the emergency room for Dodgers reporter David Vassegh ... who ended up breaking several bones in his body on the ride at the Brewers' ballpark. The mishap happened just before L.A. took on Milwaukee at the stadium in Wisconsin. Vassegh was gunnin' to check an item off his bucket list by finally going down Bernie's Chalet in center field -- but things went terribly wrong for the journalist when he came to a stop on the ride. Allen Weisselberg , the longtime chief financial officer for the Trump Organization , pleaded guilty on Thursday to 15 charges related to tax fraud and evasion. Weisselberg’s plea requires that he testify against the Trump Organization, as opposed to Donald Trump himself, at an upcoming trial. Weisselberg faces a five month jail sentence on Rikers Island and five years probation, and paying nearly $2 million in taxes, penalty and interest. Last year, New York prosecutors charged Weisselberg and the Trump Organization in an alleged scheme to evade taxes on more than $1.7 million in income. Weisselberg initially pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors had described a 15-year tax scheme and said the charges include 15 felony counts, including a scheme to defraud, conspiracy, grand larceny and falsifying business records. They said they have digital drives with grand jury testimony, bookkeeping records, tax records, statements of potential witnesses.
