Sheila Atim marveled that the top four actors listed on the call sheet during filming of Gina Prince-Bythewood ’s hot epic The Woman King “are all dark-skinned Black women.” Counting on the fingers of one hand, Atim recited the names of her fellow stars: “ Viola Davis , Lashana Lynch , Thuso Mbedu and me!” Smiling, she said proudly, “That’s something!” Atim continued: “A movie of this scale with a studio, with this kind of platform. The BFI London Film Festival will present nine new feature films and documentaries by UK-based filmmakers at its third annual Works-in-Progress showcase. Scroll down for the lineup. This year, the showcase, which forms part of the festival’s industry program, will be an in-person event screening extracts from each project introduced by their producer to an invited audience of international buyers and festival programmers. The nine projects are either in production, post-production, or near completion. Clips from each project will also be available online from 8-9 October via a secure platform to a wider pool of invited international industry professionals. Tiffany Haddish will not be facing a lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse and other such horrible accusations after all. Less than a month after Jane Doe first filed a multi-claim complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court, the plaintiff has ended her own action. “My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years – and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us,” Doe in a statement Tuesday. “We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.” Along with the public stepping back today, the plaintiffs also put a dismissal with prejudice notice in federal court.
