EXCLUSIVE : Hollywood-based international management firm Bohemia Group is expanding into Korea. The Susan Ferris-run company has joined with Hugh Cha, Jae Yong Lee and Jay Jung to create Bohemia Group Korea, a management and production company based in Seoul. Roger Daltrey says that making Tommy, the 1975 cinematic adaptation of the Who‘s like-titled rock opera, was a turning point in his life for a surprising reason. “When we filmed it, we worked with lots and lots of extremely disabled people in some of the scenes, and some of them were very young,” the singer says. “It took me back to my teenaged years. I remember that dreadful period where you don’t quite know who you are, where you’re going. You’re always insecure. In a way, you are deaf, dumb and blind to the world.” Reflecting on that experience led him to want to help teenagers, and in 2000 it inspired his association with the U.K.’s Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that supports hospitals in helping teenage patients, since most health facilities cater toward children and adults. A group of German cinema organizations have come together to pen a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her government in a bid to establish a coherent strategy and timeline for re-opening venues. Two weeks ago, a regional-level plan for exiting lockdown emerged that placed cinemas at the back of the list, prompting an angry response from cinema representatives. Now, exhibitor reps the HDF Kino and AG Kino, distribution orgs G Verleih (Association of Independent Distributors) and the Association of Film Distributors (VDF), as well as the Federal Association of Local Film Workers (BkF) have co-signed a letter asking for cinemas to be allowed to re-open on a unified, nationwide date around Easter (April 4). Established Middle East players Front Row Filmed Entertainment and BeIN Media Group have renewed their multi-year home entertainment agreement, which sees Front Row’s English language feature films head exclusively to BeIN’s movie channels in the Middle East and North Africa. This time, the companies have added an SVOD window to the existing first pay TV deal. Front Row acquires more than 100 feature films a year.
