Toronto Film Festival Closing-Night Film Is ‘Dalíland’: Where Is Ezra Miller?
The 47th Toronto Film Festival on Tuesday selected the Mary Harron-directed Dalíland as its closing-night movie. The pic stars Ben Kingsley as the older Salvador Dalí and Ezra Miller as the younger Dalí. However, the TIFF press release left Miller’s name off the cast credits. It’s been public knowledge that Miller is in the film. The Flash star this week was charged with felony burglary in Vermont in addition to several other run-ins with the law this year. Deadline learned this morning that Miller has not been cut out of Dalíland . In a 2021 Cannes Market interview with Deadline , Harron told us: “We started looking at Dalí in the 1970s, the older Dalí, with flashbacks to the younger Dalí, which are rendered like an old movie. That format really excited me. Ezra had like three days between finishing Fantastic Beasts and starting The Flash, and insisted on coming and doing our film. The story is all played out through this kind of Nick Carraway figure … [Read more...] about Toronto Film Festival Closing-Night Film Is ‘Dalíland’: Where Is Ezra Miller?

The company behind the Oscar-nominated Australian feature Tanna has slated the pic for release across the U.S. and Canada in October. ‘Descendant’ Review: Searching For The Clotilda, The Last Known Slave Ship
African American history often gets buried in the bowels of the past. I am always embarrassed when I learn about moments from Black history that I feel I should already know. The subject of Margaret Brown’s documentary Descendant is the slave ship Clotilda, found off the coast of Plateau, Alabama (labeled Africatown). Having premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, then screened at SXSW, it is the first film to open the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. Descendant is also produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground . The documentary follows the living descendants of the enslaved on the ship that landed in Alabama, who are looking for validation and reparations. These people were tired of waiting around for someone to give them the answers, and shows how these individuals fought to bring this journey full circle. The Clotilda slave ship arrived off the coast of Alabama in 1860, even though The Act Prohibiting Importation of … [Read more...] about ‘Descendant’ Review: Searching For The Clotilda, The Last Known Slave Ship

‘Rust’ Production Company Fined Nearly $137,000 For “Willful & Serious” Safety Violations: “An Avoidable Loss Of Life Occurred”
UPDATED with detailed summary of the investigation: The company that produced the ill-fated Rust movie has been slapped with a fine of $136,793 by the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau for its “willful and serious” violation of workplace safety procedures. The fine, which is the maximum allowable, follows the Bureau’s six-month investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on October 21. “There were serious management failures,” state Environmental Cabinet Secretary James Kenney said in a video statement (watch it below), “and more than sufficient evidence to suggest that if stardard industry practices were followed, the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutching and the serious injury to Joel Souza would not have occurred. … This is a complete failure of the employer to follow recognized national protocols that keep employees safe.” Read the report … [Read more...] about ‘Rust’ Production Company Fined Nearly $137,000 For “Willful & Serious” Safety Violations: “An Avoidable Loss Of Life Occurred”
‘Triangle of Sadness’ Trailer Will Make You Wanna Eat the Rich (and Puke Them Out)
Skip the nachos at the theater if you go see Triangle of Sadness this fall. On Tuesday, Neon released the trailer for the Ruben Östlund-directed film, which had some Cannes viewers walking out of the theater after they watched the snobbiest of snobs doing the most human things: puking and pooping. The trailer — which opens with twink models giving their best rich and poor brand impressions — gives just a taste (maybe we shouldn’t use that word) of the shenanigans to come on a luxury cruise, where the film is set. The film is a satirical take down on modern capitalism and the one percent. “The success of a luxury cruise depends on you,” says a supervisor on the cruise as clips of Instagram-ready moments on the boat are shown. “I don’t want to hear anybody say ‘No.’ It’s always ‘Yes sir!’ and ‘Yes ma’am!’ “ Meanwhile, one worker nervously stutters before getting into a hot tub after a rich lady commands her to “enjoy the moment.” The trailer takes a turn after a different … [Read more...] about ‘Triangle of Sadness’ Trailer Will Make You Wanna Eat the Rich (and Puke Them Out)
