Buffy is about to collect another award: Sarah Michelle Gellar will receive the Icon Award at the 2023 SCAD TVFest in Atlanta. The annual gathering will return to an in-person affair from Feb. 9-11. The festival will also screen an episode of the new Paramount+ series Wolf Pack , in which Gellar stars and executive produces. “Sarah Michelle Gellar is a trailblazer in the field of television. An actor who speaks to many generations, she epitomizes what it means to be a television icon,” said Christina Routhier, exec director of SCAD TVFest. “At SCAD TVfest, we work to feature amazing women in the industry throughout all of our programming.” Gellar, who began her career as a child actor, has appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, Do Revenge , and the Scooby-Doo franchise. Sarah Michelle Gellar was a female superhero on Buffy, The Vampire Slayer for seven seasons. The actor is now calling out social media trolls that are sometimes not accepting of female-led projects like Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel despite women proving they can thrive in the genre. “Genre is where women can really succeed and hold an audience,” she told The Guardian . “Every time a Marvel movie tries to do a female cast, it just gets torn apart … Unfortunately, audiences weren’t as accepting. Sarah Michelle Gellar has confirmed a longstanding rumor: Dolly Parton was a producer on the television version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer . While the rest of the world remained oblivious, Parton made sure the show’s cast was reminded of her role. She annually sent holiday gifts to them, Gellar revealed in a conversation on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Gellar recalled, “We’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, “She doesn’t even know who I am.” And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance.” She admitted the praise staggered her. “I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now.” Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.” Parton was a cofounder of Sandollar Productions, which produced Buffy and the Angel spinoff series. Sarah Huckabee Sanders , the former White House press secretary and newly elected governor of Arkansas , will deliver the GOP response after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. Sanders will deliver the address from Little Rock. Sanders served as President Donald Trump ’s press secretary from 2017 to 2019. She then joined Fox News as a commentator, but left that position to run for governor of Arkansas. She followed her father, Mike Huckabee, as governor of the state and is the first woman to hold that position. Kim Reynolds, the governor of Iowa, delivered the GOP response last year. Anton is opening a TV production arm helmed by former Fremantle alums Sangeeta Desai and Sarah Doole. The producer-financier’s London-based TV shingle will make global shows via the boutique studio and the outfit is seeking to attract creatives to partner with on scripted labels across Europe. The TV arm will also look at direct and first-look deals with established on and off-screen talent. To run the shingle, Anton has made a duo of splashy hires in the form of business unit boss Desai and Creative Director Doole, who worked closely together at Fremantle. Fresh off the back of the penultimate episode of BBC smash Happy Valley , creator Sally Wainwright this morning cryptically teased her next project, as she talked up the virtues of taking a six month hiatus. Speaking to the BBC’s Today program, the Gentleman Jack scribe said she has recently been learning the drums and this is acting as prep for her next project when she returns to writing in February. Wainwright didn’t go into any further detail but said she had enjoyed her recent six month hiatus “a bit too much” following a “tough and bruising year.” “I’ll be starting work again come February,” added Wainwright. “I’ve been a bit of a workaholic for 20 years so having the time off was great but it will soon be time to go back to the conveyor belt.” Wainwright had also been working on upcoming Disney+ project The Ballad of Renegade Nell and past credits include Last Tango in Halifax and To Walk Invisible. Fronted by KJ Apa , Lili Reinhart , Camila Mendes and Cole Sprouse , Riverdale ‘s swan-song Season 7 will bow at 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, following a new episode of The Flash. The Kennedy McMann -led Nancy Drew begins its fourth and last season at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. The network also today said that both series will wrap their runs on the same night, with the finales airing back-to-back Wednesday, August 23. Riverdale returns with a time warp.
