Former TLC star Josh Duggar was sentenced to 151 months — or about 12 1/2 years — in prison on Wednesday after he was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, the Associated Press reports. Duggar was facing up to 20 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. Prosecutors had pushed for the maximum sentence, but the possession charge was dropped after an agreement between Duggar’s legal team and the court; he was subsequently only sentenced for receiving child pornography. Duggar maintained his innocence in court and vowed to appeal, According to the AP . Duggar was arrested in April and pleaded not guilty to charges of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material. After an eight-day trial in December — during which prosecutors presented evidence that he had repeatedly downloaded and viewed child sexual abuse material from a hidden part of his work computer in May 2019 — the jury found him guilty on both counts. In May 2021, a federal agent … [Read more...] about Former Reality Star Josh Duggar Sentenced to 12 Years in Child Pornography Case

Morrissey Rocks Broadway (And Brightens It, Believe It Or Not): Review
Morrissey has never really been as gloomy as his reputation would suggest – no one is as gloomy as his reputation would suggest – but the former Smiths frontman seemed in especially good spirits – and powerfully strong voice – for last night’s first show of a seven-night Broadway residency. Transforming the lush, elegant 109-year-old Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (where the Donna Summer musical had tried so hard to resurrect disco) into a premiere, fine-sounding rock hall, Morrissey ripped into a 20-song set that surveyed his entire career. With a five-man band, this show is a loud, legitimate rocker – even the ballads cook – as Morrissey dives back to Smiths stuff (“Rubber Ring”, “What She Said”) through classic solo work (“Everyday Is Like Sunday”, “Suedehead”, “Hairdresser On Fire”) and right up to his forthcoming California Son album of covers (Jobriath’s “Morning Starship”). Without making any obvious modifications for the Broadway stage – no storytelling, … [Read more...] about Morrissey Rocks Broadway (And Brightens It, Believe It Or Not): Review

Fox News’ Coverage of the Uvalde Shooting Was Sickening
The decade following the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary has proved that the Republican Party’s infatuation with guns is stronger than any reservations it may have about children being slaughtered. Conservative gun worship has been reaffirmed in the wake of shooting after shooting, and it shouldn’t be surprising that after at least 21 people, including at least 19 children, were killed in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday by a teenager who bought two assault rifles shortly after his 18th birthday , Republican politicians and right-wing media chose guns over the nation’s children. The reaction was especially egregious on Fox News , which decided to put bloviating pundits front and center as information about what happened became public, ignore even the most basic tenets of journalism in favor of reckless speculation, and bring on a steady procession of “experts” to offer harebrained solutions for the epidemic of people with guns killing people in schools. Here are a few examples … [Read more...] about Fox News’ Coverage of the Uvalde Shooting Was Sickening
Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
“What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” This is how Hershel Walker responded on Tuesday night when asked about gun control in the wake of a shooter killing 21 people, including 19 children, at an Uvalde, Texas, elementary school hours earlier. Asked if he believes there should be new gun laws in the wake of the Texas shooting, Georgia Senate GOP nominee Herschel Walker told me in ATL: “What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” He didn’t engage further. pic.twitter.com/wpsAZ7yKP5 — Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 25, 2022 The hollow incoherence on display here is sadly typical of the man Georgia’s Republican voters just deemed worthy of representing them in the Congress. Walker is best known for his Heisman Award-winning turn at the University of Georgia, followed by a relatively lackluster career in the NFL. He hasn’t done much since that would indicate he’d be a capable public servant. He has, however, pledged his allegiance to Trump and … [Read more...] about Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
