Samsung launches new phone
NEW YORK — Most leading phones offer the same basics: Big screens, decent battery life and good cameras. But standing out from the crowd isn't easy, even when a phone offers innovative features. One such smartphone launches this week from Red, a company with roots in movie cameras. Its Hydrogen One has a holographic screen that produces 3-D visuals without making you wear special glasses. The challenge will be finding customers beyond gadget elitists. The phone's $1,295 price tag won't help. But makers like Red face a bigger problem: Phones aren't just about the hardware these days. Chipping away at Apple's and Samsung's dominance is much harder because so much phone innovation these days is a matter of software and artificial intelligence. … [Read more...] about Can a holographic screen help a new phone break out?
Samsung has announced its new Galaxy A9 smartphone, which the company says is the first smartphone to include four rear cameras. The Korean company's new Galaxy A9 device is aimed at the "Instagram generation", Samsung said on Thursday, and will go on sale in the UK in November, starting at £549. The A9 has a 24-megapixel main camera, as well as telephoto, ultra wide-angle and depth lenses designed to help with a broad range of mobile photography. The phone will sit beneath Samsung's flagship Galaxy S9 and Note 9 phones released earlier this year as the best of its mid-range devices. Samsung, along with rival smartphone maker Apple, has come under increased pressure from lower-priced but premium-made handsets from the likes of OnePlus, Honor and other Chinese manufacturers including Xiaomi, forcing it to create a larger range of devices that house technologies normally reserved for flagship launches. The new phone also comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone, … [Read more...] about Samsung launches A9 smartphone with four cameras for the ‘Instagram generation’
Samsung has launched its highly-anticipated Galaxy Note 9, the latest phone in its premium range, as well as a new Galaxy Home smart speaker to challenge the likes of Apple's Home Pod and Amazon's Echo. The 6.4-inch screen Note 9 will start at £899 for the 128GB variant and £1,099 for the 512GB version. The device shares much of its design with last year’s 6.1-inch Note 8 but features an improved Bluetooth stylus, as well as an upgraded camera that takes sharper photos than the S9 released earlier this year. A 4,000mAh 'all day battery' has been included - the largest ever on a flagship Galaxy phone - alongside a 6.4-inch edge-to-edge display. The camera uses AI to take better photos, and will warn users if it detects a blur in a photo so they can quickly retake it. It features Dual Aperture technology, which Samsung introduced earlier this year on its Galaxy S9 range. This adjusts the camera lens to light in … [Read more...] about Samsung launches the Galaxy Note 9 with a 6.4-inch screen, ‘all-day battery’ and powerful S Pen

The world's number one smartphone seller returned the Note range to its full potential last year after a series of recalls for its Samsung Note 7, which had a flaw that caused some batteries to catch fire. Plenty of details about the new Galaxy Note 9 have emerged in recent weeks. At today's launch event in New York, we are expecting to see an edge-to-edge display, a powerful dual camera and Samsung's trademark S-Pen. The live stream event for the Galaxy Unpacked showcase begins at 4pm UK time, and you can watch it on YouTube, Samsung's website or on Twitter. We're also running a live blog below. On price, it could be Samsung's most expensive phone yet. It is set to start at £899, but could go as high as £1,099 for the premium version of the phone. It will probably be a couple of weeks until the … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Note 9: New phone launched at the Unpacked event
