To mark the 40th anniversary of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis ’ death, Mark Lanegan teamed up with Cold Cave for an icy rendition of “Isolation,” a track off of Joy Division’s final album, 1980’s Closer . Lanegan joined Cold Cave in a room for a live performance, singing side by side and trading vocals with the dark-wave band’s frontman, Wes Eisold. Lanegan nods along to the beat, looking as though he’s absorbing the vibe, as the group plays the tune’s skittery rhythms and chilly synth lines. The performance was part of the online event Moving Through Silence: Celebrating the Life of Ian Curtis , which also featured tributes and reminiscences by the Killers’ Brandon Flowers and members of New Order — the group that Joy Division’s members formed after Curtis’ death. The full, nearly three-hour event is still available on United We Stream’s Facebook page . Curtis died by suicide on May 18th, 1980, two months before the release of Closer . The remaining members … [Read more...] about See Mark Lanegan and Cold Cave’s Joy Division Tribute, ‘Isolation’

Jesse Malin Revisits Bruce Springsteen Duet ‘Broken Radio’ on ‘Glitter in the Gutter’ Reissue
In 2007, Bruce Springsteen joined Jesse Malin for the duet “Broken Radio,” a bittersweet song about memories made and lost through the FM dial. Since then, the New Jersey/New York collab has never appeared on streaming: Glitter in the Gutter , the album on which it first appeared, went out of print. On Wednesday, Malin announced that the “lost” record, his third solo LP, will be reissued in a remastered and expanded edition via Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records. Ahead of Glitter in the Gutter ’s Sept. 30 release, an updated version of “Broken Radio” and an accompanying video, directed by Danny Clinch, arrive today. Rechristened “Broken Radio ’22,” the recording features a fresh vocal take by Malin and re-recorded music by his band — Springsteen’s vocal, originally cut at the E Street Band leader’s home studio, remains pristinely intact. “Springsteen had mentioned that if we needed him, he would like to be part of the record in some way,” Malin says in a statement about … [Read more...] about Jesse Malin Revisits Bruce Springsteen Duet ‘Broken Radio’ on ‘Glitter in the Gutter’ Reissue
‘Ramy’: Hulu Sets Season 3 Premiere Date
The long-awaited Season 3 premiere of Hulu ‘s Ramy has been set for September 30. Ramy Youssef returns for 10 episodes of the acclaimed series which follows first-generation, Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan (Youssef) and his family as they navigate spirituality in their politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood. Dr. Oz Finally Explains Viral “Crudité” Shopping Video Mistakes: “I Was Exhausted”
For the first time since an old video of him shopping for crudité went viral, Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz has spoken out. “I’m at Wegner’s,” Oz says in the video, apparently mixing the names of two separate grocery chains, Wegmans and Redner’s. (Signs in the background of the video clearly indicate he’s at Redner’s). Asked on Newsmax yesterday about his confusion Oz replied, “I was exhausted. When you’re campaigning 18 hours a day…Listen, I’ve gotten my kids’ names wrong, as well. I don’t think that’s a measure of someone’s ability to lead the Commonwealth.” That gaffe alone may have been just a minor political blip, but Oz also used a very effete-sounding word in the video that may Pennsylvanians — and most Americans — may not know. “My wife wants some vegetables for a crudité, right?” Oz says while moving down the aisle and bemoaning the price of the produce he’s collected. “Guys, that’s $20 for a crudité and that doesn’t include the tequila. I … [Read more...] about Dr. Oz Finally Explains Viral “Crudité” Shopping Video Mistakes: “I Was Exhausted”
‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’: The MCU Takes on the Sitcom
Among the running gags of Disney+’s new Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is that its title character — a.k.a. Jennifer Walters, cousin to Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who becomes big and green after their blood accidentally intermingles in a car accident — hates her own nickname. “It’s so dumb!” she complains. “I can’t even exist without being a derivative of the Hulk .” The comic-book version of She-Hulk has rarely had to worry about this. Despite the green skin and superstrength, she has occupied a relatively unique space within the Marvel universe. She is a Hulk who retains her own personality even when powered up(*). She is a lawyer whose specialty is cases involving other superheroes. Where most of her peers tend to treat their heroic identities as necessary evils they’d rather do without, she loves being the stronger, more confident, and more glamorous She-Hulk, and resents having to occasionally turn back to normal. And most importantly, she has largely been written as … [Read more...] about ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’: The MCU Takes on the Sitcom
