M ike Love bounds up the stairs inside his massive Lake Tahoe home (10 bedrooms in all, 12 bathrooms, two elevators, not to be believed) and into a large walk-in closet stuffed to overflowing with garish, multicolored shirts and a gazillion baseball caps, many of them emblazoned with the name of his band, the Beach Boys . A suitcase rests on the floor. Love nods at it, prods it with his foot. “A lot more shirts are in there,” he says, “because, if you must know, I haven’t unpacked.” And why should he unpack? For the past 54 years, he and various versions of the Beach Boys , which these days include only him as an original member, have toured almost constantly. EXCLUSIVE: Olive Bridge Entertainment ’s Will Gluck and Jodi Hildebrand are developing Constance , a magical family hybrid feature for Sony . Based on his original idea, Onward scribe Keith Bunin is set to write the screenplay, the storyline of which is under wraps. Gluck counts over $782M WW at the global box office, his most recent hit being Peter Rabbit which grossed over $351M WW. The sequel he directed, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway , which was delayed due to Covid, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 11. Onward, which Bunin co-wrote, was the last notable family film to debut before theaters closed down because of the pandemic last year, opening to $39.1M stateside and grossing $142M before segueing to Disney+. Following in the footsteps of Cannes, which was forced to cancel its famous film festival in May but still went on to reveal what its schedule would have been anyway, the Telluride Film Festival on Monday released its own lineup. The films would have been presented over Labor Day weekend September 3-7, but the fest was canceled last month after trying to hang on for some version of its former self in light of the pandemic. Similar to what other fests have programmed such as Kate Winslet -starrer Ammonite, Idris Elba in Concrete Cowboys and director Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland starring Frances McDormand , the list is similar to the eclectic, film-centric nature of Telluride minus some of the starrier Oscar campaign-driven films that have put the fest on the must-stop list for Academy Award hopefuls for much of this century. The Beach Boys ‘ Mike Love unveiled a sprightly new song, “Unleash the Love,” the title track from his upcoming double LP, out November 17th via BMG. The rollicking tune boasts a busy but soulful arrangement filled with organ, piano, horns, acoustic guitar and plenty of back-up vocals and harmonies. Love’s lyrics carry a simple yet endearing message – “It’s in our power to change this planet’s destiny/ If we unleash the love” – and the musician even interpolates the Youngbloods’ famed “Come on people now” refrain from “Get Together.” “Unleash the Love” is one of 13 new songs Love wrote for his double-LP, which will also feature re-workings of 12 classic Beach Boys tunes, such as “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda” and “Good Vibrations.” Michael Lloyd produced the album, while Love also enlisted a slew of guests, including John Stamos, who plays drums on two originals.
