The end of WWI gave rise to the Roaring ’20s, a time of economic rebound and recovery. Future release from Covid-19 restrictions will likely invite us to gather again in a similar fashion: Music, food, travel, theater and sports will all come roaring back. Here are my predictions of what to look for in food culture specifically, beyond digital, delivery and drive-thrus, after the pandemic. For those beloved restaurants that have survived, people will pack their dining rooms again. The comfort of known experiences , familiar staff and great food will help revive neighborhood spots as anchors in the communities they serve. These are the restaurants that were able to stick with us through the dark days of the pandemic, and we reciprocated with takeout, delivery and chilly outdoor dining compromises with the hope it would help. Billy Bush Out At ‘Today’ In Wake Of Lewd Conversation With Donald Trump Caught On Tape
“ Billy Bush will be leaving the Today Show’s 9 AM hour, effective today,” NBC News SVP Noah Oppenheim said this evening in a note to staff. In the carefully worded statement, Oppenheim called Bush “a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family” adding that they wish him success as he goes forward. In a separate statement, Bush said he was “deeply grateful for the conversations I’ve had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues” adding that he is looking “forward to what lies ahead.” With the announcement, NBC News has said so long to Bush, ridding itself of the Today show anchor heard round the TV news landscape giggling his way through a lewd conversation with Donald Trump about women, including Bush’s then- Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O’Dell. Juilliard Must Modernize, or It Will Disappear
“Who the hell is Bruce Springsteen?” I thought. Dashing out the stage door of a late-night Broadway show to beat the blundering crowds back in 2019, violin case in hand, I stepped onto the uptown C train for a swift escape out of midtown Manhattan. As I scrolled mindlessly through email, a message caught my attention: My colleague was requesting musicians to record with Bruce Springsteen — later to be disclosed as a live album recording of Western Stars . Not recognizing the all-American legend and turned off by the Jersey shoot location, I asked my spouse if I should waste my time with this gig. Shocked, my husband immediately went into a diatribe on the greatness of “The Boss.” I was shaken at the almost-missed opportunity. I’d been a musician for decades, graduated Juilliard in 2013, and studied works like Paganini’s technically demanding 24 Caprices and Bach Chaconne. But I’d really never heard of Springsteen.
