California Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that he has tested positive for Covid -19, despite being doubled vaxxed and boosted. He is exhibiting only mild symptoms and will begin taking Paxlovid to combat the virus, according to a statement from his office. The news comes as the state’s number of infections has grown rapidly in recent weeks, even as the governor has sought to keep the focus on initiatives around global climate leadership, gun control, rent relief and water conservation. Sacramento, where Newsom lives and works, has a test positivity rate well above the state’s already high average rate. California’s 7-day test positivity rate is at 7%.
