The CW Chelsea Handler isn't afraid to let Prince Harry know how she feels about all the intimate details he's been sharing ... as she made his royal family jewels the butt of some icy jokes at the Critics Choice Awards. The comedian took the stage Sunday night in L.A., and during her opening monologue she took some jabs at a ton of folks ... including Harry and his recently released memoir, "Spare." Getty Chelsea was talking about Niecy Nash-Betts ' nomination for the Netflix series "Dahmer", but deftly segued to poke fun at the Duke of Sussex. She said, "Dahmer became the third highest viewed show on Netflix with a combined watch time of 1 billion hours, which apparently is the same amount of time we're going to have to listen to Prince Harry talk about his frostbitten penis. It's enough, already". And, it seemed to go over well with a lot of the audience ... cause she got laughs all around the room. ‘Saint Omer’ Director Alice Diop On Why It’s Important For Her Films To Make A Political Statement – The Deadline Q&A
Alice Diop ’s French drama Saint Omer opens in theaters today, and I remember the emotions I felt when I saw the film at Venice last year. It was a very personal experience for me — as if someone was telling my story on screen. At the beginning of my eventual interview with Diop, I asked where she sees herself within the French film industry. She made it clear she has stopped contemplating how she fits in. “It’s a question that I’m asked a lot, but I no longer ask myself where I fit in with French cinema,” she said. Can’t blame her for thinking that way. Creators of color often are asked those questions — or about the state of inclusion in Hollywood and how they would improve it. Questions that their white counterparts frequently and unfairly avoid. Written by Diop, Amrita David, and Marie N’Diaye, Saint Omer allowed the director to shift focus to her work and let the story speak for itself. “I don’t want to put my energy into what my place in the industry is anymore,” … [Read more...] about ‘Saint Omer’ Director Alice Diop On Why It’s Important For Her Films To Make A Political Statement – The Deadline Q&A
Auntie Fee — I’m Trading In My Knife Set For A Film Set
Auntie Fee -- best known as Internet sensation Chef Sista Girl -- is taking her low budget recipes and take-no-s**t attitude to the big screen, and there's a Tyler Perry twist. Auntie just booked her first film role in " Barbershop 3 " and is already bringing some flavor to the Atlanta set ... according to a family source. This wasn’t just a friendly favor either ... she actually auditioned to land the gig. We're told the foul-mouthed chef is playing Anthony Anderson 's mother, and her character's name? Madea ... which is kinda perfect since Fee told us Tyler Perry is one of her idols. As Fee might put it ... this ain't no f**king one-off! We're told she's already looking to to score more roles. We're thinking less PG and more R -- for language. … [Read more...] about Auntie Fee — I’m Trading In My Knife Set For A Film Set
Seth Rogen Blasts The CW At The Critics Choice Awards: ‘We’re On Your Least Favorite Network’
Seth Rogen took the stage at the Critics Choice Awards to present the winner of Best Comedy Series. However, the comedic actor had some notes for the organizers of the ceremony and proceeded to put the CW , the network airing the event, on blast. Rogen said that it was his first time at the Critics Choice Awards and questioned if they “always give two awards out at the same time.” The actor was referring to the Supporting Actor/Actress category and had a bone to pick with the network. “That was weird,” he noted. “Why do they do that? Are we crunched for time? Get another hour! It can’t be that expensive. You know how I know that? This show airs at 4 p.m. on the CW. That cannot be pricey… timeslot, from my understanding of how this all works.” RELATED: Critics Choice Awards Photos: Live From The Red Carpet and Gala Ceremony Rogen continued roasting the network noting that they had no nominations at the event adding, “I’m not saying the CW is bad. Chelsea Handler Takes Shots At Prince Harry, James Corden, Congress & More In Opening Monologue At Critics Choice Awards
In her debut as host of the Critics Choice Awards , Chelsea Handler opted for a traditional Hollywood roast in her opening monologue. “It is an honor to be your host tonight after everything that we have all been through together over the past few years between Covid, monkeypox, the Don’t Worry Darling press tour. It’s been a lot,” Handler said at the top of her monologue, a reference to the slew of salacious stories Don’t Worry Darling ‘s director, Olivia Wilde, and stars, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, generated around the film’s release. Prince Harry is everywhere these days, between promoting his memoir, Spare, and Netflix releasing the Harry & Meghan docu-series. He has made a slew of revelations, one of which appears to have struck a chord with Handler. “Niecy Nash-Betts is nominated for Dahmer. Dahmer became the third highest viewed show on Netflix, which a combined watch time of 1 billion hours,” she said. “Which, apparently, is the same amount of … [Read more...] about Chelsea Handler Takes Shots At Prince Harry, James Corden, Congress & More In Opening Monologue At Critics Choice Awards
‘You People’ Review: Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jonah Hill Lead Kenya Barris’ Hysterically Funny & Smart Feature Debut
In a nutshell the brilliantly hilarious, pertinent, and wickedly smart new movie, You People is in some ways a new age Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, that landmark 1967 Tracy-Hepburn-Poitier Oscar winning comedy about the effect an interracial relationship has on the parents of the young couple. Of course back then it was a major social issue and even had trouble booking some southern theatres. The idea was switched in a Bernie Mac/Ashton Kutcher 2005 remake that all those years later did not have the same impact. With anti-semitism and racism back on the rise in 2023 America however the concept of an interracial/interfaith marriage, Black and White, Jew and Muslim, could not be more timely or needed, and in co-star Jonah Hill ’s and director Kenya Barris ’ whipsmart screenplay is also a knock-you-out-of- your-seat laugh riot. Ironically I saw it this week at its World Premiere at the same Westwood Village theatre where I saw Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner all those years … [Read more...] about ‘You People’ Review: Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jonah Hill Lead Kenya Barris’ Hysterically Funny & Smart Feature Debut
‘Saturday Night Live’ Spoofs George Santos’ Fabulist Claims And His Fabulous Drag Performer Past
Coming off a holiday break, Saturday Night Live went with embattled congressman George Santos ’ fabulist past claims for its cold open tonight while also spoofing his alleged past as a drag performer. The sketch aired just hours after the real Santos responded to reports that he was a drag performer when he lived in Brazil. Reporters caught up with him at New York’s La Guardia Airport , and he told them, “I was not a drag queen in Brazil. I was young and I had fun at a festival.” That non-denial denial was pretty much the theme of the SNL opener, set up as a segment of Fox NFL Sunday with Santos, played by Bowen Yang, as one of the correspondents. When the Fox NFL Sunday hosts cut to Santos, reporting from the field, he told them, “I’m sort of the real Bo Jackson, and I’m proud to be first African American quarterback to ever dunk a football.” After making many more claims about his football greatness, Santos then is called out on it. One of the hosts … [Read more...] about ‘Saturday Night Live’ Spoofs George Santos’ Fabulist Claims And His Fabulous Drag Performer Past

Laneway 2023: The Beths’ Guide to Auckland
“I love Auckland. I like travelling and touring and being in other places for periods of time, but Auckland feels like home to me,” Liz Stokes, lead singer of The Beths, told Rolling Stone AU/NZ last year. Tāmaki Makaurau means a lot to the power-pop four-piece; despite regularly touring the world as one of New Zealand’s most successful exports of recent years, they still like to call only one place home. After a two-year hiatus, Laneway is about to make its long-awaited return to Auckland on Monday, January 30th. With that in mind, we could think of no better band to give us their knowledgable guide to the city than The Beths. You can find out about two of Liz’s bandmates, bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Tristan Deck, favourite Auckland haunts below. Laneway 2023 hits Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth from January 30th-February 12th.
