The studio has acquired a pitch for a revamp of 1956 horror film The Mole People pitched by Chris Winterbauer , who’ll write the script. In the new take, a woman travels to a town veiled in a conspiracy to rescue her grandchildren from their father. To do this, she must fight through hell in the underground tunnels where the Mole People reside. In the 1956 original, archaeologists stumble into the underground lair of a race of darkness-dwellers who can see in low light and have no pigmentation after being out of the light for so long. The high priest who rules the small pocket of mole people is threatened by the newcomers and wants them dead. With demand surging for sports-themed films and TV series, Authentic Brands Group and David Glasser’s 101 Studios have launched Sports Illustrated Studios, an exclusive home for film and TV adaptations of the magazine’s work. Plans call for several scripted or unscripted feature films and TV series per year, as well as podcasts. Their basis will be the magazine’s “unique looks at the culture and characters that transcend the game,” in the words of the official announcement. In charge of all production, distribution and marketing for Sports Illustrated Studios will be 101 Studios, which Glasser started after leaving his longtime post at the Weinstein Company. EXCLUSIVE : BBC News will make sweeping changes to its news channel presenting line-up from next week, with a number of seasoned anchors dropping off air. The British broadcaster is merging its UK and World News stations into a single channel, with changes gradually being introduced from April 3. Audiences are unlikely to notice a “big bang” overhaul, but one of the most notable differences will be the channel’s presenter lineup. Newsroom sources also expect BBC management to rethink plans to reduce UK news amid fears that the merger could dilute domestic output and damage viewing figures. The BBC said the channel always planned to carry UK news for local viewers. From next week, five journalists will take up Chief Presenter roles, including Matthew Amroliwala, Yalda Hakim, Christian Fraser, Lucy Hockings, and Maryam Moshiri. The first two episodes will premiere April 20 in the U.S. and Canada, and in Australia and the U.K. on Friday, April 21, with further international markets to follow. In the second season, Beavis and Butt-Head return as, natch , two guys who like things that are cool and hate things that suck. Created and voiced by writer, producer and director Mike Judge, the characters originated in Judge’s 1992 short film Frog Baseball , which was broadcast by MTV’s animation showcase “Liquid Television.” After MTV commissioned a full series around the characters, Beavis and Butt-Head ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 1997. Gurney’s Love Letters for a (very) limited run: The production at the Irish Repertory Theatre will run from May 30 to June 4 for eight performances. The Gurney play will be the second of two parts of Irish Rep’s The Letters Series, which will kick off with Jerome Kilty & George Bernard Shaw’s Dear Liar starring Melissa Errico and David Staller. That play will start its eight-performance run on April 25 and conclude April 30. Both productions will be performed on the Irish Rep’s 148-seat Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage. Universal Television is developing a series adaptation of Diane Marie Brown’s debut novel Black Candle Women with Jenna Bush Hager , who has a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group, under her production banner Thousand Voices. The Roys are back with a vengeance. The Season 4 premiere of Succession drew an audience of 2.3M on Sunday across HBO Max and linear telecasts, which is a series high for same-day viewers. Total viewing for Sunday night was up 62% compared to Season 3’s premiere viewership of 1.4M in October 2021. At the time, that marked the best premiere night performance of any HBO original series since HBO Max launched in May 2020. Sunday’s viewership is also up about 33% from the Season 3 finale’s 1.7M. Season 3 averaged about 7.2M viewers per episode, according to HBO. HBO also says that all previous seasons of Succession saw a 4x increase in viewership in the week leading up to the Season 4 premiere, compared to the week prior. Torre’s story was detailed in the book co-authored by him and Tony Maietta released in 2018.
