Trump’s re-election strategy isn’t as audacious as it sounds when you understand that probably one-third of the country already disbelieves what they see and hear unless it’s coming from Fox News, Ben Shapiro, some other pillar of the right-wing echo chamber, or Trump himself. Remember: A thrice-married, maybe-billionaire from New York City with a long history of bankruptcies and deceptions succeeded at selling himself as the candidate of the Everyman. Trump’s party — for he’s captured it lock, stock, and barrel — denies the science of climate change and has made the simplest of public-health protections, wearing a mask, into a political statement, preferring to risk infection or death if it means they can “own the libs” and show solidarity with the president. One film braving all of this is I Care a Lot. A deliciously cynical satire directed by J Blakeson, it is the kind of movie that would play great to a Toronto audience. Rosamund Pike stars as a steely con woman who targets the elderly by using legal machinations to become their legal guardian. She throws them into care facilities and siphons off their assets. These bad people go mano a mano in a series of lethal twists and turns in a film as dark and uncompromising as The Grifters. … [Read more...] about Toronto 2020: Who The Hell Knows How Pandemic-Challenged Acquisitions Market Will Unfold
In Ohio, Trump blamed Clinton for the Middle East’s descent into chaos and said she “lacks the mental and physical stamina to take on ISIS” and added that she “lacks the judgment … stability and temperament and moral character to lead our nation.” In a soft and raspy voice, Trump declared Clinton and Obama responsible for the rise of ISIS, a decidedly more nuanced version of his previous claims that they were “co-founders” of the terrorist organization. … [Read more...] about Trump Lays Out His Foreign Policy Plan: ‘Keep the Oil!’
“The ability of our industry to return to active production, whether on set or on location, is severely compromised by the inability to purchase insurance to cover losses stemming from communicable diseases amongst cast, crew, and others involved in the production,” the letter continues, imploring Speaker Pelosi, Senator McConnell and the respective leadership to push through new relief packages moving their way through Congress now. … [Read more...] about Hollywood Unions & MPA Lobby Nancy Pelosi & Mitch McConnell For More COVID-19 Relief To Restart Industry
