LONDON—Alvin Lee is on the road again, and this time he’s not going home. Inspired by a special London concert last March without Ten Years After behind him, Lee bid an indefinite goodbye to his colleagues of seven years. Ten Years After might someday work together again, he says, but the immediate future belongs to a new band called Alvin Lee and Company. They are now on a six-week U.S. tour, and Lee’s Rainbow Theatre concert has been released as an album, In Flight. “Well,” Lee says, grinning in the corridor of his countryside home, a gold record for the Woodstock album hanging overhead, “I’m certainly not going to be playing ‘I’m Going Home.'” In a sense Lee is home, playing the kind of music that earned him that first initial recognition. From ‘Fleabag’ to James Bond and Beyond: Phoebe Waller-Bridge on Death and Her Secret New Movie
With two Emmy-nominated series and Hollywood at her feet, the star-creator behind the Amazon comedy and 'Killing Eve' reveals her future plans (hint: It’s probably not a Netflix deal) and the allure of writing for 007: "It’s a kind of fantasy nightmare." Phoebe Waller-Bridge has clearly done her homework. Delivering herself onto a shaded sofa in the Chateau Marmont courtyard, the 34-year-old British auteur surveys the Sunday brunch set with the confidence of a regular. "Before I got here I read something like 'The 25 Most Controversial Things That Happened at the Chateau,'" she confesses, her eyes flashing with a newfound awareness of decades marked by glamour and debauchery. "You know, just to really get in the zone." Interviewing a writer and actor who so nimbly avoids cliche on the grounds from which roughly 8,736 celebrity profiles have been harvested feels almost unsavory. But Waller-Bridge is leaning into Hollywood stereotypes as she hits Los Angeles at the beginning … [Read more...] about From ‘Fleabag’ to James Bond and Beyond: Phoebe Waller-Bridge on Death and Her Secret New Movie
Chris Cornell’s Family Not Ready to Buy Suicide Story
EXCLUSIVE Chris Cornell's family just got shut down by the City of Detroit, which refused to release information surrounding the singer's death, because the City claims it's still "an open investigation." We've learned the family's lawyer, Kirk Pasich, sent a Freedom of Information request to the City asking for the police and toxicology reports. The City nixed the request, saying releasing the info would "compromise and/or interfere with their investigation." The family says it's "mystified" the Medical Examiner announced to the world Chris' death was a suicide when the full autopsy hasn't been completed. Chris' wife, Vicky, says the family still has several unanswered questions about what led to her husband's death and she thinks the toxicology reports will answer those questions. The intimation ... maybe Chris was so high on drugs he was not in his right mind and did not consciously try and kill himself. I've lost my voice in screaming and lamentation this weekend. And I have lost my mind sometime earlier this year, so I have to read. Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press. Just to pick up on what Hugh Laurie said: You and all of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press. But who are we, and what is Hollywood anyway? It's just a bunch of people from other places. I was born … [Read more...] about Watch Meryl Streep’s Powerful Golden Globes Speech
