6 minutes ago Star Wars has been around long enough that many of the people who are now involved with making the franchise's new projects grew up with the original movies, and some of that group also had their childhood years coincide with the Prequel Trilogy. Take John Boyega, the actor currently bringing Finn to life on the big screen. His gateway to the world of Star Wars was opened when his sister gave him a Darth Maul action figure. As Boyega revealed during an Ask Me Anything on Reddit: To promote his upcoming movie, Pacific Rim Uprising, John Boyega recently held a Reddit AMA, and naturally the session veered into Star Wars territory on several occasions, which included him answering how his Star Wars fan journey began. Boeyga was seven years old when Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace arrived in 1999, and while it sounds like he didn't catch the movie while it was in theaters, he was still growing up in that sweet spot when the Prequel Trilogy was expanding the Star … [Read more...] about John Boyega Reveals His First Star Wars Memory

An artist is claiming that Disney and Lucasfilm plagiarized his work for Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s posters. The upcoming Star Wars film publicly suffered from quite a few behind the scenes issues during production, which eventually led to Solo‘s original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, being booted from the project and Oscar-winning director Ron Howard signing onboard as their replacements shortly thereafter.Since Solo wrapped production in October 2017, it was presumed that Disney would ultimately delay the film from its scheduled May 2018 release date to December 2018 (in keeping with Lucasfilm’s release schedule for Star Wars films under Disney’s leadership; Solo is the only Star Wars movie that’s not releasing in December). But that didn’t happen. Instead, Lucasfilm decided to keep the film’s summer release date. They finally started marketing the movie in February 2018, releasing the first teaser trailer during Super Bowl 52. Then, … [Read more...] about Did Solo: A Star Wars Story Posters Copy An Artist’s Work?
Memes are used for all kinds of humor. However, more often than not they involve somebody taking a jab. People love memes related to their favorite movies and series. Few series are as popular as Star Wars. That also means that Star Wars memes are some of the most savage out there. Especially when it comes to the two bitterly opposed, but intrinsically linked trilogies of Star Wars. The original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. These two trilogies have demarcated fans of the franchise for decades, both by age group and by preference. Fans favor either one of the other– definitely not both and definitely not equally. There are so many disparities in looks, continuity and quality that it’s easy for fans to mock both trilogies with memes. The mockery doesn’t stop at the movies themselves either. Plenty of the memes focus directly on the fans themselves, of either or both trilogies. In this list we’re looking at some of the harshest, funniest, most creative … [Read more...] about Star Wars: 15 Wicked Prequel Vs Original Trilogy Memes That Only True Fans Will Understand
Instead of an opening crawl… from StarWars A Star Wars fan has created a potential opening forSolo: A Star Wars Story, and it may well make the film stand out from the other movies in the franchise. Already, the film’s status as a Star Wars Story rather than one of the mainline episodes of the series separates it from some of the major Star Wars traditions. After all, Rogue One did not include the usual Star Wars opening crawl, so it would stand to reason that Solo would follow suit. What’s more, it looks as though the film will have a different tone from the other Star Wars movies. Lando Calrissian actor Donald Glover has confirmed that Solo is a lot more fun than other Star Wars films, and so it stands to reason that the movie’s opening would also have more of a humorous edge, to make that shift of tone that little bit more defined. Instead of the traditional crawl most Star Wars film have in the beginning, a reddit user proposed a hilarious record-scratching moment to open Solo: A Star Wars Stroy. The video quickly shot to the front page of reddit, it was so popular. It is highly unlikely Solo will have a crawl as it was done away with for the first Star Wars standalone, Rogue One. But, this fan-made video idea would be an instant classic. Basically, it is a record scratch "how did I get here?" moment with "Teenage Wasteland (Baba O`Riley)" by The Who playing. Solo stars Alden Ehrenreich as the iconic space smuggler Han Solo (first made famous by Harrison Ford) and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian (first played by Billy Dee Williams). The first trailer for Solo was recently released and fans were intrigued with multiple aspect of the film, including a bubbling excitement for Glover as Lando. The first peek at the stand-alone pic was greatly anticipated, especially since original … [Read more...] about ‘Star Wars’ Fan-Made Video Proposes Zany ‘Solo’ Intro Over Traditional Crawl
It's starting to look like we're getting a new Infinity War trailer next week. Marvel Studios' next movie could possibly be their most anticipated release ever, and could also be their biggest movie ever, both in terms of scope and what it's poised to do at the box office. The massive event movie is a little over two months away, but we've only seen a single teaser trailer so far. That lends some credibility to a rumor that suggests the new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War will debut next week on Good Morning America. The rumor comes courtesy of Reddit user Rman823, who made note of the fact that Sebastian Stan, Paul Bettany and Karen Gillan are all set to appear on Good Morning America this Tuesday, February 27. While that isn't outright confirmation, it's hard to believe that three of the Avengers: Infinity War cast members will be there on a purely coincidental basis. Not to mention that Disney has worked with Good Morning America to reveal trailers before, most recently with the … [Read more...] about Is the Final Infinity War Trailer Coming Next Week?
The single-platform video game Super Mario Odyssey has outsold Electronic Art’s (EA) multiple-platform, blockbuster title, Star Wars: Battlefront II. Titanic topped Star Wars as the #1 box office movie of all time. In congratulations, George Lucas bought this full-page ad in Variety, in which the Star Wars crew jumps out of the sinking ship and into the ocean of second place. (Here’s the fully-sized ad.)Apparently, it is a Hollywood tradition for directors who have their #1 records smashed to take out full page ads congratulating the new record-holders. The good people of Reddit have dug up two more such ads: When Star Wars broke Jaws‘ record, Steven Spielberg congratulated George Lucas by taking out a full-page ad with a picture of R2-D2 snagging Jaws on a fishing line.Thereafter, E.T. beat Star Wars and held the record for a while; we can’t find the ad Lucas bought congratulating Spielberg for that, but it exists. But Star Wars Special Edition reclaimed #1 in 1997. The result? Another full-page ad in which E.T. puts a crown on R2’s head.(h/t Neatorama, with a special thanks to … [Read more...] about When Titanic Beat Star Wars, Lucas Bought Cameron this Ad
Remember floppy disk drives? Those things that read disks that each contained 1.44 megabytes of your adolescent poetry and multiple computer games? You know, that thing you paid nine dollars for the last time you built a computer because, hey, it was only nine dollars? Well, better than sitting in your custom gaming rig and doing nothing, these two floppy disk drives are hacked to make music — specifically, the iconic Imperial March from Star Wars. The noises used to generate the music is made by a magnetic head moved by a stepper motor. One can make specific sounds when the head is moved at an appropriate corresponding frequency. To move the head you need to activate the drive by pulling the DRVSB0 or 1 (depends on the cable you have and the connector – notice the crossover on the FDD ribbon cable) pin low and then falling edge on STEP pin makes the head move one step in direction dependent on DIR pin state. An ATMega microcontroller is generating those frequencies and … [Read more...] about Two Hacked Floppy Disk Drives Playing Star Wars’ Imperial March [Video]
At a time when he didn't have much to look forward to, a Star Trek fan was given the opportunity to watch a rough cut of Star Trek Into Darkness just days before he died. When New York-based film buff Daniel Craft was told he had terminal cancer less than six weeks ago, Craft's friends and family took it upon themselves to make his last days as happy and comfortable as possible. His friend Doug posted a plea from Craft's wife, Paige, on the popular Internet message board Reddit, and the message was picked up by social media and the press until it eventually found its way to J.J. Abrams. The director granted him access to see an early edit of the film, which isn't set to be released until May.
