Adult Swim ’s Emmy-winning animated comedy Rick and Morty will return for its fifth season on Sunday, June 20. To commemorate the show’s return, Adult Swim has designated the 20th of June as “Rick and Morty Day,” a Multiverse Holiday to be celebrated globally. On the 20th, fans will be treated to “a megadose of access and content of all things Rick and Morty “—including sneak peaks, behind-the-scenes footage and a few special surprises—which will be shared across TV, digital and social media, as the Season 5 premiere rolls out around the world. Adult Swim has released a new trailer for Rick and Morty , which will return for its fifth season on June 20th. The clip doesn’t offer much in the way of plotlines — unsurprisingly — but it does boast a barrage of one-liners and a montage of clips from this next batch of bonkers sci-fi mayhem. The madness includes flying bug robots, more Rick clones, interdimensional portals, strange ocean men, and some sort of surreal post-apocalyptic/ Mad Max adventure in which Rick wears a skimpy leather outfit with a swordfish inexplicably piercing his abdomen. As Deadline notes, Adult Swim plans to make June 20th Rick and Morty Day, offering up fans additional sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes footage, and other surprises to go along with the show’s return. Hulu is growing its adult animation slate with an eight-episode order to Koala Man , a family comedy about a powerless superhero in an Australian suburbs created by and starring Australian animator Michael Cusack and executive produced by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Pokémon Detective Pikachu co-writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. 20th Television Animation is the studio. Written by Cusack, Samit and Hernandez, Koala Man follows a family patriarch (Cusack) who lives a not-so-secret identity as the titular hero who possesses a burning passion to snuff out petty crime and bring order the community. Cusack executive produces alongside Samit and Dan Hernandez, who serve as showrunners, Roiland, Australian production company Princess Pictures and Bento Box. EXCLUSIVE: Robyn Lively is set to play Sara Bellum and Tom Kenny will reprise his role as the Narrator in the CW ’s live-action reboot pilot Powerpuff (fka The Powerpuff Girls ). Written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier and directed by Maggie Kiley based on the original Cartoon Network animated series created by Craig McCracken, Powerpuff follows Blossom (Chloe Bennet), Bubbles (Dove Cameron) and Buttercup (Yana Perreault), who used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crimefighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? Lively’s Sara Bellum is a warm and witty career woman who has a complicated romantic history with Drake. Always a friend to the Powerpuff Girls, she has remained close to them since childhood.
