Writers Go On Strike At ABC’s Quiz Show ‘The Chase’

UPDATED with ITV Entertainment statement: WGA has issued a strike notice against ABC ’s quiz show The Chase , from ITV America. “Per Working Rule 8, no Writers Guild member shall accept employment on The Chase , effective immediately,” the guild wrote in a letter to members. “ITV America has refused to apply the full terms of the Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA) to all seasons of The Chase going forward – and writers on The Chase , and the Guild at large, refuse to accept an agreement that would undermine writers of future seasons.” ABC’s The Chase , a remake of British game show, features the stars of Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time , James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Hosted by Sara Haines, it recently aired its initial order of nine episodes. It has not been renewed for a second season though there may be additional produced episodes from Season 1. The non-scripted television business is made up of a wily group of people who deftly navigated their way through the Covid-19 pandemic to get a large volume of shows on air. There is now new light at the end of the tunnel and shows that were shut down, forced to adapt or paused during the last twelve months are starting to find a sense of normality with the likes of American Idol bringing back audiences, Survivor finally getting back into production and American Ninja Warrior returning to its traditional summer time slot. There is also a widespread sense of optimism that the next twelve months will be buoyant for the business – the “roaring ‘20s of non-scripted” as one buyer called it – with the pandemic having an encouraging impact on development that will see some wild and noisy ideas emerge. Ajeeb Daastaans Trailer: This Anthology Film Promises Some High Octane Drama

Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar has unveiled the trailer of his recent production venture, Ajeeb Daastaans . By the looks of it, the anthology film promises a wholesome level of high octane drama and complexities in its four stories and the characters. The trailer showcases the glimpses of the events taking place in each of the four stories and all of them will leave one wanting for more. The film will be releasing on the OTT streaming platform Netflix on April 16, 2021. The movie will be bankrolled by Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment and will comprise four diverse stories helmed by four different filmmakers. The directors who will be presenting their different stories in the film are namely Raj Mehta, Shashank Khaitan, Kayoze Irani and Neeraj Ghaywan. Writers Guild Awards 2021: Promising Young Woman, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, The Crown Take Top Honors

The 73rd annual Writers Guild Awards were held virtually on March 21, 2021. The ceremony was streamed privately for invitees and was hosted by Kal Penn. The Best original screenplay award went to the feminist revenge thriller Promising Young Woman . Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won Outstanding Adapted Screenplay. Promising Young Woman ’s writer-director Emerald Fennell said in her speech, "I wish I could be in the room and see everyone in person. As it is, I will say thank from my bleak writers room in England." Accepting the award for The Borat sequel, Sacha Cohen quipped of the film's many nominees and said, "I can't help but think that we won it because 60 percent of the Writers Guild worked on this movie." He added, “A film like this is extremely hard to write partly because it stars real people whose behavior is completely unpredictable. Paz Vega & Edward James Olmos Arclight Feature ‘Chasing Wonders’ Picked Up By Gravitas

Arclight Films ’ Chasing Wonders has locked North American distribution with Gravitas on its coming of age film, Chasing Wonders directed by Paul Meins. A theatrical and on-demand release is scheduled for June 4. Arclight is handling global sales for the pic. Set in the lush wine country landscapes of Australia and Spain, the heart-warming tale follows 12-year-old Savino, who, encouraged by his maternal grandfather to live a life of hope and possibility, takes off on the adventure of a lifetime to find the magical Emu Plains. His journey leads him to the heart of the human condition – learning to understand our parents’ past but not to be defined by it.
