On Gudi Padwa, many Maharashtrians place gudi outside their doors or windows and celebrate the first day of the month Chaitra (as per Hindu calendar). Acclaimed composer Danny Elfman has released a new song, “True,” which will appear on his first solo album in 37 years, Big Mess , out June 11th via Anti-/Epitaph. “True” is a menacing track that finds Elfman toying with grinding synths, booming industrial drums and blown-out guitar, while sharp strings give the song an even more sinister edge. “I got no destination,” Elfman sings on the track, “I just got termination/We talk about our harmony/We think about our termination.” “True” arrives with an equally eerie music video directed by multimedia artist Sarah Sitkin. “The video is an exploration of fractured identity, muffled through the lens of memory,” Sitkin said in a statement. “Danny is a central figure within the video, yet only in his reproduced likeness via prosthetics, masks, and 3D printed body parts. I wanted to make a video that was gritty, unpolished and uncomfortable.” Related Stories Danny Elfman Teams Up With Death Grips' Zach Hill for 'Kick Me' … [Read more...] about Danny Elfman Previews First Solo Album in 37 Years With New Song ‘True’

A wild thing happened on Monday, March 1st. The share price of Live Nation Entertainment hit an all-time high — even though the last time the concert company had hosted a full-scale live show was 12 months prior. That stock-price peak sent the market cap of the Los Angeles-headquartered Live Nation surging above $20 billion for the first time. And this happened even as the company announced that, thanks to the prolonged Covid-19 lockdown, its fourth-quarter revenues for 2020 were just a tenth of the size they were in the same quarter of 2019 (a puny $237.3 million compared to $2.89 billion, to be exact). Why does Live Nation look so powerful on Wall Street even as a pandemic cripples its core business at the knees? The company’s counterintuitive, irrepressible market cap is likely about two things: one, the steady management of the company through the crisis under veteran CEO and president Michael Rapino, and two, investors’ confidence that the world will bounce back quickly from … [Read more...] about How Will Live Nation Bounce Back From the Concertless Year?
Olly Alexander ’s role in the HBO Max series It’s a Sin introduced the British pop star to a whole new audience, many of whom may not be as familiar with his musical output. Now his band, Years & Years, have released a new song, “Starstruck,” with a video that features Alexander (with bright red hair) frolicking with himself while dressed in cloud pajamas. “Like most of us, I’ve spent the past year at home, and I wanted to create something super positive and fun for people (and myself) to bop along to… ‘ Starstruck’ is about the rush you get when you’re with somebody you’re really into; it’s about holding onto a good feeling and not letting it go,” Alexander said in a statement. “Whatever we’re doing or wherever we are in life, I think we all deserve three minutes of interstellar ecstasy.” Related Stories Trailers of The Week: 'The Courier,' 'Ginny and Georgia,' 'Young Rock' and More Three Friends Contend With the AIDS Crisis in New Trailer for 'It's a … [Read more...] about Olly Alexander Meets His Match in Years & Years’ ‘Starstruck’ Video
