You’d think that the life of Jenny McCarthy, former Playboy Playmate of the Year and co-host of MTV’s dating show, Singled Out, would be one long beer commercial, filled with good friends! poolside high jinks! windsurfin’! The second of four look-alike sisters, she was raised in a “very middle, middle class” Polish neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. She remembers her tightknit block as “the kind you see on TV where kids play kickball on the street.” Dad was a steel-company foreman who worked two other jobs to put the kids through school; Mom was a hairdresser. Asleep in the manger, the dog itself won’t eat the hay. But it won’t let you eat it either. We’ve got to get the dog off the hay. For much of the past year and a half, the Social Network has been everywhere … [Read more...] about Can We Be Saved From Facebook?
When Laura Jane Grace realized that her next musical project was going to involve a new band, she had a revelation. “It felt really relieving to be like, ‘OK, this isn’t an Against Me! record, so I can say whatever the fuck I want!’” says Grace, whose upcoming album — Bought to Rot, her first LP with new outfit the Devouring Mothers — comes out November 9th. With an album under her own name, “there is no precedent set,” says the singer-guitarist. “It doesn’t have to be anything. No one can comparatively be disappointed because it’s not like the last record or the record before that, or the record before that. Having that blank slate was really liberating.” Recorded at Hudson’s studio in rural Michigan, Bought to Rot contains a range of songs, from the … [Read more...] about Laura Jane Grace on New Band Devouring Mothers and the Future of Against Me!
