The Imagen Awards on Monday unveiled the full list of nominees for its 37th annual gala honoring Latino storytelling, performances, writing and creative expression in television and film. This year’s awards show is set for October 2 in Los Angeles at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. Walt Disney Studios’ West Side Story was among the most nominated alongside Disney’s animated movie Encanto . Eugenio Derbez scored several nods including Best Actor in a Feature Film for Apple TV+’s CODA and Best Actor in a Comedy (Television) for Hulu’s The Valet . Academy Issues Formal Apology to Sacheen Littlefeather for 1973 Oscars: ‘I Never Thought I’d Live to See the Day’
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will formally apologize to Native American civil rights activist Sacheen Littlefeather for her treatment at the 1973 Oscars ceremony. During the now-historic night, Littlefeather took the stage in place of Marlon Brando and, at his request, declined his award, using the time to instead draw attention to the stereotyping of Native Americans in film and TV as well as the South Dakota Wounded Knee protest. Instead of praising her insight, the audience – and individuals backstage – booed and heckled the activist, who was later threatened with assault and arrest. “I was stunned. Movie Academy Apologizes To Sacheen Littlefeather Over 1973 Oscars – Read The Letter
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday that it has formally apologized to Sacheen Littlefeather over the actress’ famed appearance at the 1973 Oscars , where she appeared on Marlon Brando’s behalf to decline his Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Godfather . The “statement of reconciliation” signed by then-AMPAS president David Rubin was sent in June but revealed today as the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced plans for “An Evening with Sacheen Littlefeather,” a program involving and programmed by Littlefeather that will take place September 17. UPDATE: This year’s A Capitol Fourth , the annual televised Independence Day concert, will feature a celebration of West Side Story ‘s 65th anniversary, headlined by Chita Rivera , and a centennial salute to the Lincoln Memorial. Just added to the lineup are Cynthia Erivo and Jake Owen. The event, to be broadcast on PBS , will be hosted by Mickey Guyton , with performances by Darren Criss, Yolanda Adams, Gloria Gaynor, Keb’ Mo’, Emily Bear, Andy Grammer and Loren Allred with the National Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Jack Everly. Sabrina Carpenter can read our minds, after all. On Monday, the “Fast Times” singer announced the dates for her fall tour, alongside its retro poster, to support her recently-released album, Emails I Can’t Send . The U.S. trek is the first time she has hit the road since her Singular tour in spring 2019. “IM GOING ON TOUR,” she captioned the announcement. “WAKE UP,” she added. Carpenter will kick off her Emails I Can’t Send tour in Orlando in late September before making her way to the Bay Area to perform at the Regency Ballroom.
