Select Broadway Theaters To Open For New York Pop-Up Events Beginning In April
A select number of now-dark Broadway venues will begin opening in April for a series of live- performance pop-up events that could establish the safety protocols needed for the theater industry’s eventual return. Beginning with the Shubert Organization’s Music Box Theatre on 45th Street, Broadway theaters will be among the venues housing the events of the NY PopsUp program described as a new 100-day arts festival throughout New York City and State. The series is being overseen by producers Scott Rudin and Jane Rosenthal. Though the PopsUp festival had been previously announced, the inclusion of Broadway theaters as the program’s “flexible venues” was disclosed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo today. The series of live indoor performances across the state begins April 2. Outdoor events began Feb. 20. Related Story Bill C. Google Promises To Stop Tracking Your Browsing History To Sell Ads
Google Wednesday addressed the hot-button issue of consumer privacy, explicitly promising not to track peoples’ browsing history in order to feed them ads. It said Chrome will offer a first iteration of new controls in April. “People shouldn’t have to accept being tracked across the web in order to get the benefits of relevant advertising. And advertisers don’t need to track individual consumers across the web to get the performance benefits of digital advertising,” wrote David Temkin, Google’s director of Product Management, Ads Privacy and Trust, in a company blog post called “Charting a course towards a more privacy-first web.” He cited a study by the Pew Research Center that 72% of people feel that almost all of what they do online is being tracked by advertisers, tech firms or other companies, and 81% say the potential risks they face from data collection outweigh the benefits. Kygo Helicoptered a Piano Up a Mountain for His Virtual Concert
On Thursday (or Friday, depending on your time zone), Kygo will release his virtual concert, performed from atop a snowy mountain in Norway’s Sunnmore Alps. To make it happen, the Norwegian DJ and pop hitmaker spent more than $100,000 of his own money, according to manager Myles Shear. “Since I started touring, this is the longest time I’ve gone without playing a show so I wanted to do something really special in Norway,” Kygo tells Rolling Stone . “To me, the Sunnmore Alps are a perfect setting that displays the beauty of Norway. Growing up, I’ve spent a lot of time skiing and hiking in the mountains across Norway and wanted to show everyone who hasn’t been to Norway a bit of what it’s really like.” Related Stories Kings of Leon Will Be the First Band to Release an Album as an NFT Shawn Mendes' Manager Is Helping Launch a New NFT Marketplace Related Stories From Soup Nazis to Nuts: 100 Best 'Seinfeld' Characters 'Silence of the Lambs': 'It … [Read more...] about Kygo Helicoptered a Piano Up a Mountain for His Virtual Concert
Candi Staton Isn’t About to Stop Now
In October 2017, Candi Staton was at a Nashville recording studio, working on a new song called “The Prize Is Not Worth the Pain.” As her band stretched out the disco-funk tune into an extended jam, the singer began improvising phrases and one-liners. At the very end, Staton eventually arrived at the hard, declarative truth she had been working toward the whole time: “I am somebody,” she growled with a preacher’s conviction, “all by myself.” When Mark Nevers, Staton’s producer, heard her sing that line, a lightbulb went on. “It was just shocking,” he says. “I was like, ‘That’s it. That’s what this whole record’s about.’” I am somebody all by myself . Candi Staton has been striving to live up to that promise throughout her career, while moving freely among a variety of scenes and eras. Her work has taken her from the golden-age gospel circuit of the Fifties to the historic R&B recording studios of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the early Seventies and the iconic New York … [Read more...] about Candi Staton Isn’t About to Stop Now
