Continuing its powerhouse run at worldwide turnstiles, Shah Rukh Khan espionage actioner Pathaan has topped the global box office century mark, getting there in 12 days on Sunday and now with $103.6M through Monday. It is the first Bollywood movie to the $100M milestone without a China release. The split sits at 526 gross crore ($64.2M) in India and $39.4M from overseas markets through Monday. Already, the Siddharth Anand-directed pic is the biggest Bollywood movie ever globally in the original Hindi language. This is where it gets slightly confusing in terms of the records posted. Aamir Khan-starrers Dangal and Secret Superstar , both Bollywood titles, remain ahead of Pathaan on a worldwide basis, but that includes over $100M each from China where the movies were dubbed for local audiences. Similarly, Bajrangi Bhaijaan , which stars Salman Khan who also appears in Pathaan , is still ahead globally having had a dubbed China release. Anil Kapoor Talks ‘The Night Manager’ Hindi Adaptation, Upcoming Film Work & Choosing International Projects
When Anil Kapoor was offered a lead role in the Hindi adaptation of UK drama series The Night Manager , his first thought was how he could apply what he’d learned while making the Indian version of U.S. crime drama 24 . Kapoor plays the role of an international arms dealer, played by Hugh Laurie in the original English-language series, based on the John le Carre novel, while Aditya Roy Kapur has been cast as the soldier turned hotel night manager infiltrating his circle, played by Tom Hiddleston in the original show. After being approached by Disney+ Hotstar content chief Gaurav Banerjee to play the role, he started watching the English series, which had been broadcast by BBC and AMC in 2016 and streamed by Amazon Prime Video in India. “I was impressed by the original, but we had some very strong writers and talent attached to the remake from an early stage, so felt we’d be able to pull it off,” says Kapoor, in a wide-ranging interview with Deadline. “I wanted to … [Read more...] about Anil Kapoor Talks ‘The Night Manager’ Hindi Adaptation, Upcoming Film Work & Choosing International Projects

The first adaptation of the novel, for BBC and AMC back in 2016, was a ratings hit and rumors of a second run have continued ever since without an official announcement. India Recorded Second Biggest Box Office Year Ever In 2022 With $1.28BN, But Admissions Still Down On Pre-Pandemic Levels
South Indian mega-hits like K.G.F: Chapter 2 and RRR and Disney ’s Avatar: The War Of Water helped drive India’s box office to its second biggest year ever in revenue terms in 2022, but the gains are also partly attributed to rising ticket prices as overall admissions are still down on 2019. Although cinemas were closed in January, India’s total box office revenue reached $1.28BN (Rs106BN) in 2022, according to a report from Ormax Media and GroupM, the second biggest year on record and just a shade off the $1.31BN (Rs109.5BN) achieved in the record-breaking year of 2019. By contrast, in the first year of the pandemic in 2020, total box office was just $238M (Rs20.6BN) and grew to only $455M (Rs37.7BN) the following year when the Delta variant of Covid-19 hit India. However, admissions only reached 892M in 2022, compared to 1.03BN in 2019, the highest year on record. Referred to as “footfalls” in the Indian film industry, the admissions figure hadn’t dipped … [Read more...] about India Recorded Second Biggest Box Office Year Ever In 2022 With $1.28BN, But Admissions Still Down On Pre-Pandemic Levels
