Bono will be among the guests of First Lady Jill Biden at tonight’s State of the Union address, joining a list that includes the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Oksana Markarova and Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as the mother and stepfather of Tyre Nichols. The White House cited Bono’s work as an activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty. Bono helped build bipartisan support for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which President George W. Bush announced at his State of the Union 20 years ago. Bono visited the White House in December along with other members of U2 as they were recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors. Germany’s DCM & Flute Film To Adapt Acclaimed Novel ‘History Of Violence’ By French Prodigy Édouard Louis — EFM
EXCLUSIVE : German distributor-producer DCM , whose releases have included Spencer , Moonlight and The Artist , is teaming up with Berlin-based producer Flute Film on a film version of Édouard Louis’ acclaimed 2016 novel History Of Violence . The autobiographical novel, translated into 30 languages, is the second by prodigious French novelist Louis. Based on a real incident, it concerns a violent rape and robbery in Paris on Christmas Eve and the subsequent recounting of events to police and family members. The German-language film version has a script by Dan Kitrosser, best known for Sundance drama We The Animals . Igor Plischke ( Metamorphosis ) will direct. Alicia Keys Stage Musical ‘Hell’s Kitchen‘ In Development At New York’s Public Theater
A new musical featuring the music and lyrics by Alicia Keys , and apparently based on the R&B singer-songwriter’s young life, is in development at New York’s Off Broadway Public Theater . The production, titled Hell’s Kitchen after the Manhattan neighborhood where Keys was raised, has some high-profile names attached. According to an Actors’ Equity audition call sheet posted this week, Michael Greif ( Rent, Next to Normal, Dear Evan Hansen ) is attached to direct, with a book by Kristoffer Diaz (the Public’s 2019 stage adaptation of Disney’s Hercules ) and choreography by Camille A. Brown ( for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf, Choir Boy ). Lucy Frazer Replaces Michelle Donelan As UK Culture Secretary In Cabinet Reshuffle
The UK has another new Culture Secretary. Lucy Frazer , the Minister for Levelling Up, will replace Michelle Donelan , who has spent less than six months in the job. Frazer is the 12th Culture Secretary in 13 years. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also slimmed down the duties of the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS). He has removed the department’s responsibility for technology and created the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology. 10 Downing Street said the DCMS will focus on the “importance of culture, media and sport to [the] economy and build on [the] UK’s position as a global leader in the creative arts.” Donelan had a short but influential tenure and will be remembered for junking plans to sell Channel 4, the UK commercial broadcaster owned by the government. Talking Points Memo Editorial Staffers Ratify New WGA East Contract
The six-member editorial staff at Talking Points Memo has voted unanimously to ratify the WGA East ’s new three-year contract with the political news website. “The guild’s new collective bargaining agreement with Talking Points Memo raises the bar for online media workers, setting standards that keep up with cost-of-living expenses and the state of the industry,” said WGA East Executive Director Lowell Peterson. “It is rewarding, especially for guild members working at Talking Points Memo, to see a company live up to the values it espouses online.” The new contract will see the minimum salary go from $52,000 up to $65,000 in January 2025. Employees making below $75,000 will receive a 3.5% salary increase in each year of the contract, those making up to $100,000 will receive 3.25% annual salary increases, and staffers making over $100,000 will receive 3% annual salary increases.
