Plex , a 12-year-old streaming provider with a unique combination of third-party access and management tools for users’ media assets, has raised $50 million in growth equity. The funds come from one of its existing backers, Intercap. As part of the round, Intercap chairman and CEO Jason Chapnik has joined the board of directors as chairman and Intercap president James Merkur has also gotten a board seat. The financing includes about $15 million in new capital for Plex, with the remainder used to buy shares and options from employees and shareholders. Michael Bay is in discussions with Sony Pictures to either direct or produce a film adaptation of Hunting El Chapo , an upcoming book about the Mexican drug cartel leader, Variety reports. Bay is currently in post-production on the fifth installment of the Transformers series, The Last Knight , which is out June 23rd. Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of the American Lawman Who Captures the World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord , out October 3rd, chronicles the manhunt for the infamous drug lord. “El Chapo,” real name Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, evaded authorities for over a decade before his capture and extradition last year to the United States. Cole Merrell, a pseudonym for the DEA official who tracked the near-mythic drug kingpin for eight years, co-wrote the book with Douglas Century. Carlos Vives and Ricky Martin have teamed up for a new track, “Canción Bonita,” their first-ever collaboration. The new single was released on Tuesday night with a vibrant music video shot in San Juan’s historic district and on Puerto Rico’s beachfront. “If anything, we’re more childlike than the new generation,” Martin told Billboard of the song’s inspiration. “We’ll never change. We’re relaxed. We’ve achieved pretty things in life. We don’t have to prove anything to anyone.” Vives added: “We don’t want to change. We want to be the same people. And this song is a declaration of love to a city I love. And it’s one of Ricky’s cities. Nick Cave has released his new single “Grief,” inspired by an October 2018 letter that a fan sent to the singer’s Red Hand Files site. Arriving just a month after Cave’s surprise quarantine-recorded new album Carnage , the “Grief” single’s A-side features Cave’s spoken word response to a fan named Cynthia, who asked the singer — whose teenaged son Arthur died in 2015 — whether he felt his son was still communicating to him through dreams. “It seems to me, that if we love, we grieve. That’s the deal. That’s the pact. Grief and love are forever intertwined,” Cave wrote at the time, with his letter now forming the lyrics of the spoken word “Letter to Cynthia,” featuring music by Bad Seeds’ Warren Ellis . “Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable.
