On Day 11 of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial for the murder of George Floyd, Stephen Colbert lamented that “sadly, we’re back where we started,” with “another Black man…killed by police.” The Late Night host was referring, in his opening monologue, to the officer-involved shooting of Daunte Wright on Sunday, in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center. EXCLUSIVE : A drama about iconic Puerto Rican boy band Menudo is heading to the U.S. via Estrella TV . The Spanish-language broadcaster has picked up 15-part series Súbete A Mi Moto about the band that spawned Ricky Martin. The hour-long series, which is named after one of the band’s best known songs, originally aired on Amazon in Latin America in October 2020. It is the latest Menudo project for the small screen, coming 44 years after the band was first created. Universal Television Alternative Studio teamed up with Mario Lopez last year to develop a weekly competition format that will search for and rebuild the band. As told by the band’s creator, the series recounts the story of international 80’s pop sensations, set against the backdrop of the band’s anthological songs, the story of the youthful phenomenon that revolutionized Latin pop music around the globe. The Met Gala , New York’s annual extravaganza of celebrities and fashionistas, will return live and in person this year to launch a two-part exhibition on American fashion, one of which will include the involvement of yet-to-be named film directors in the staging of the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each part of the exhibition – one opening this fall, the other next spring – will get its own gala: On Sept. 13, a smaller gala, with Covid protocols, will launch “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” opening Sept. 18. Menudo , one of the biggest Latin boy bands in history, is making a comeback. Universal Television Alternative Studio has acquired the rights to Menudo, an hour-long, weekly competition format that will search for and rebuild one of the most iconic boy bands of all time. Access Hollywood co-host Mario Lopez is set to executive produce the project. A network is not yet attached. Menudo hails from Lopez and his Via Mar Productions, Emmy-winning The Voice producer Audrey Morrissey’s Live Animals, 3 Arts Entertainment and Foundation Management. Universal Television Alternative Studio is the studio. “I grew up as a huge fan of Menudo and I’m thrilled to be a part of bringing this iconic band back to the world,” said Lopez. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has postponed indefinitely the annual Met Gala , one of the fashion world’s most high-profile events, which had been set for May 4. The Met museum itself, as well as its branches — Met Fifth Avenue, Met Breuer, and Met Cloisters — has been closed since Thursday amid the coronavirus scare, and staffers were told today that it will remain shuttered until at least April 4. A Met spokesperson said today that “all programs and events through May 15 will be canceled or postponed. Hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute. It has taken place on the first weekend of May every year since 2005.
