Big Eyes, Beetlejuice and Batman: Tim Burton on Finding His Voice

· December 18, 2014 ·

I n person, Tim Burton looks a bit like a sketch out of a Tim Burton movie. His hair is frizzled, his clothes are dark; he speaks in quiet but rushed tones, with a slightly manic gleam in his eyes. This description has undoubtedly been made before, but it’s worth repeating here, particularly since Burton’s new film, Big Eyes , looks so very un-Tim Burton-like. Gone are the macabre backdrops and characters, instead replaced with the bright, picturesque landscape of 1950s San Francisco. But underneath those pastels and shots of the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll find the same things that made Burton’s earlier worlds so memorable: isolation, sadness, and that fish-out-of-water, outside-looking-in mentality. Greenwich Entertainment Acquires Holocaust Film ‘Love It Was Not’ About Remarkable Auschwitz Relationship

· April 12, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE : Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to well-received Holocaust documentary Love It Was Not , which will play at Hot Docs this month. Israeli filmmaker Maya Sarfaty’s film charts the remarkable and harrowing true love story between a prisoner and a Nazi. Beautiful and full of life, Helena Citron is taken to Auschwitz as a teenager (one of the first 1000 transported to the concentration camp), and soon finds unlikely solace under the protection of Franz Wunsch, a barely older SS officer who falls in love with her and her magnetic singing voice. Risking execution if caught, they went on with their forbidden romantic relationship for two and a half years until the war ended and the camp was liberated. Who Is Joel Greenberg? A Guide to the Man Who Could Bring Down Matt Gaetz

· April 12, 2021 ·

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has for weeks now been trying to fend off one of the most bizarre sex scandal allegations to ever befall a member of Congress . The man he has to thank, other than himself, is Joel Greenberg . When The New York Times reported last month that Gaetz was under federal investigation over whether he engaged in the sex-trafficking of a 17-year-old girl, it noted that the inquiry sprung from a separate investigation into Greenberg. A former Seminole County, Florida , tax collector, Greenberg has been charged with everything from sex crimes to buying sports memorabilia with taxpayer money. Gaetz and Greenberg were friendly, and if Greenberg cooperates with investigators, as his attorney Fritz Scheller indicated he might last week, it could be very, very bad news for the Trump-loving congressman. UPDATE: Martin Scorsese Joins Tarantino, Apatow & Pals Backing Kodak Decision To Save Celluloid

· August 4, 2014 ·

UPDATE: Add Martin Scorsese to the parade of directors applauding Kodak ’s decision to continue producing film stock. He acknowledges that cameras shooting digital HD “are lighter, it’s much easier to shoot at night, we have many more means at our disposal for altering and perfecting our images. And, the cameras are more affordable: films really can be made now for very little money. Even those of us still shooting on film finish in HD, and our movies are projected in HD.” What’s more, film “is cumbersome and imperfect and difficult to transport and prone to wear and decay.” Still, “Film, even now, offers a richer visual palette than HD.” It’s also “still the best and only time-proven way to preserve movies. We have no assurance that digital informaton will last, but we know that film will, if properly stored and cared for. Our industry – our filmmakers – rallied behind Kodak because we knew that we couldn’t afford to lose them, the way we’ve lost so many other film stocks. … [Read more...] about UPDATE: Martin Scorsese Joins Tarantino, Apatow & Pals Backing Kodak Decision To Save Celluloid
