Calm , the Los Angeles based mental-health focused company and eponymous app, has hired Netflix ’s Monica Austin and TikTok ’s Greg Justice as VPs of, respectively, marketing and content. They will report to co-founders and CEOs Michael Acton Smith and Alex Tew as Calm continues to invest in original and editorial content. Calm, launched in 2012, became the first mental health unicorn (a privately held startup valued at over $1 billion) in early 2019 and has over 100 million downloads to date, averaging 100,000 new users daily. Last summer, HBO Max ordered A World of Calm , a ten-episode series narrated by Kate Winslet, Priyanka Chopra Joas, Mahershala Ali, Idris Elba, Oscar Isaac, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Lucy Liu, Cillian Murphy, and Keanu Reeves. Composers Andy Grush and Taylor Newton Stewart — a.k.a. the Newton Brothers — have worked on every single one of horror director Mike Flanagan ’s films since 2013’s Oculus . Their latest project, Netflix ’s upcoming Midnight Mass series, represents a new landmark in their collaboration, though: Grush will appear in front of the camera. “It was a real joy to watch Andy as cast, you know, in hair and makeup and dealing with the rest of the actors,” Flanagan tells Rolling Stone . The Oscar-nominated filmmaking team behind the documentary Time are looking forward to a reunion at Union Station in Los Angeles, the main venue for this year’s Academy Awards. Director-producer Garrett Bradley and producers Lauren Domino and Kellen Quinn haven’t seen each other in person for a while, because of Covid-19. “I am really excited because these are two of my best friends in the whole world and we have not all been in a room together since we premiered this film,” Domino tells Deadline. “So it’s like a beautiful universe-full-circle of us being together and celebrating this achievement, celebrating each other.” It’s the first Oscar nomination for all three. Young Sheldon , the hit WBTV-produced prequel to Chuck Lorre’s The Big Bang Theory , will launch nationwide in syndication in fall 2021. WarnerMedia has sold the broadcast syndication television rights to the series in over 90% of the U.S., the company said today. The series will air in top Nexstar markets along with stations from Sinclair, CBS, Hearst, Gray, Tegna, Scripps, Cox, Meredith, Graham, Weigel, Allen Media, Sunbeam, News-Press, Londen Media, Griffin, Lockwood, Morris amongst others. The Disney-owned network has put The Growing Season is development from the duo, I’ve learned.
