Baylor’s NCAA Championship Game Rout Scores 16.9M Viewers For CBS, Down From 2019

· April 6, 2021 ·

Baylor ’s rout of Gonzaga in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game on Monday saw CBS ’ viewership sink by 14% from 2019’s title tilt, averaging 16.92 million viewers. Its 9.4/21 household rating average was down by 19% from two years ago, when Virginia beat Texas Tech, 85-77, in overtime to win the title. The 2020 March Madness tourney was canceled days before it was set to begin as the coronavirus pandemic began to grip the country. CBS said, however, that the game at the Superdome in New Orleans the was most-watched non-football sports event since then. Saturday’s thrilling Gonzaga win over UCLA in the semifinal ranks second, having topped the Dodgers’ Game 6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays to clinch the 2020 World Series. The network noted that no team from the Eastern time zone was among the Final Four this year for the first time ever, reminding that 47% of the country’s TV viewers live there. ViacomCBS, Discovery Stocks Continue To Get Routed After Latest Wall Street Analyst Downgrades

· March 26, 2021 ·

Shares in ViacomCBS and Discovery, which had led a remarkable surge in traditional media stocks in 2021, are continuing their week-long slides today. Less than two weeks after hitting all-time highs, both stocks entered the home stretch of the trading day down about 30% apiece. ViacomCBS was at $46.90 and Discovery was at $40.62 with two hours left in the session. Trading volume has been several times normal levels as investors back away due to the latest downgrades from a Wall Street analyst. Both stocks have dropped between 40% and 50% since the start of this week. Investor enthusiasm about Discovery+ and Paramount+, the new streaming efforts (a rebrand of CBS All Access in the latter case), had been powering the shares. Wall Street recognized their streaming efforts, content war chests and willingness to finally execute a long-discussed pivot away from the still-lucrative traditional pay-TV business. Disney has been the poster child for this kind of stock action, with its … [Read more...] about ViacomCBS, Discovery Stocks Continue To Get Routed After Latest Wall Street Analyst Downgrades

AMC Networks Sets Slate Of Digital Originals To Be Produced By In-House Brand Agency In Upfronts Push

· March 19, 2021 ·

Looking to expand opportunities for advertisers beyond pay-TV, AMC Networks has set a slate of original digital series to be produced by the studio arm of its in-house branded integration agency, The Content Room. The shows, which connect with marquee properties from across the AMC Networks portfolio, offer another option for media buyers looking for a new route to consumers increasingly less tethered to pay-TV. Individual portfolio meetings with advertisers will start the week of April 5. A model for the new originals, the company said, is its successful home-grown franchise, Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s , created and hosted by Fear the Walking Dead ’s Colman Domingo. The show began as a digital short during the initial onset of Covid-19 and is now a Diageo-sponsored series featured across many concurrent platforms. It spans YouTube and IGTV and streams on SVOD, AVOD and FAST channels, linear TV on the SundanceTV network, and is available as a podcast. … [Read more...] about AMC Networks Sets Slate Of Digital Originals To Be Produced By In-House Brand Agency In Upfronts Push

Late-Night Laughs: Lilly Singh Breaks Free Of The “Creative Crutch” Of The Desk & Looks Ahead

· March 19, 2021 ·

Lilly Singh launched the second season of her late-night show A Little Late in January – having been off the air for nearly eight months due to the pandemic. She returned not in a studio as she was in season one, but in a house in Los Angeles, that made the NBC show feel more casual and also allowed her and her team more easily able to film during Covid-19. Singh tells Deadline how they achieved that, how breaking out of from the behind the desk was the best decision for the show and how she’s feeling about doing more of the show after season two ends. This comes as the YouTube star gets ready for Boss Week – a week of shows, starting March 22, where she will interview powerful women that generally don’t appear on late-night shows including Melinda Gates, Ayesha Curry, Whitney Wolfe Herd and Renee Montgomery. There’s Now an Official Date When Venue Owners Can Apply for Government Grants

· March 19, 2021 ·

The Small Business Administration announced that it would start accepting applications for Shuttered Venue Operators Grants on Thursday, April 8th. The announcement comes nearly three months after the SVOG — which was borne out of the Save Our Stages Act — passed as part of last December’s Covid-19 relief bill . The program promised to provide much-needed aid to live entertainment venues and other entities, such as movie theaters and museums; but those entities have been forced to wait somewhat longer than expected as the SBA set up the grant program. “Help is here for venue operators hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic,” SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman said in a statement. “The SBA knows these venues are critical to America’s economy and understands how hard they’ve been impacted, as they were among the first to shutter. This vital economic aid will provide a much-needed lifeline for live venues, museums, movie theaters and many more.” Related Stories … [Read more...] about There’s Now an Official Date When Venue Owners Can Apply for Government Grants
