IFC Midnight said Wednesday that it is acquiring U.S. rights to Neill Blomkamp ’s new film Demonic , a horror thriller starring Elysium ‘s Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers. The pic, co-produced and co-financed by AGC Studios and Stabiliti Studios and which was selling international rights during last month’s European Film Market, will now be released on August 20, 2021. The backstory to the pic, written and directed by the District 9 and Elysium helmer in his first movie since 2015’s Chappie , is interesting: Deadline scooped a couple months ago that he shot it under the radar in British Columbia over the summer during the pandemic, after he had to pause on moving forward with the AGC-backed Taylor Kitsch action thriller The Inferno because of the Covid shutdown. Review: Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier brings the audience back to the roots of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show brings in some nostalgia from MCU's phase one, as we mainly see people fighting people with guns and machines as opposed to magical stones and runes. The six-part series starts with the aftermath of the blip. Sam Wilson who had disappeared for five years has now started working with the US Airforce. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America (who is now … [Read more...] about The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Episode 1 Review: Sam & Bucky Are Lost Without Captain America
47 Meters Down 2 Is Happening with Original Director & New Cast
This summer movie season was really rough in a lot of ways. Specifically, it was a very disappointing season at the box office. But there were some very bright spots and, in an under the radar sort of way, 47 Meters Down was one of those bright spots. The indie movie wound up being a surprise hit at the box office and as a result, the studio is officially moving ahead with a sequel, somewhat predictably titled 48 Meters Down . The news comes to us courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter who state that director Johannes Roberts is set to return for the 47 Meters Down sequel, which he co-wrote with Ernest Riera. Mandy Moore won't be returning for this installment, but a new group of girls is going to be terrorized by an even larger group of sharks. Here's what to expect from the 47 Meters Down sequel. How I Got Into College: Revisiting the Sleeper Comedies of the 1980s
Anyone who considers themselves a comedy movie fan likely has a big space in their heart for flicks of the 80s. Across the board they possess a distinguishable, light charm we simply don't see anymore. They're perhaps our greatest cinematic resource when in need of breezy escape, or old comfort. The 80s gifted us a lengthy, diverse list of goofy flicks and great comedies - some of them duds, others passable, and quite a few so fantastically influential they changed the course of crafting funny. Let's not tiptoe around the almost fact: The 1980s brought us comedy classics. Beneath the classics is a goldmine of minor classics, cult hits, and obscure capers that hardly have an audience but should. We're examining some of those flicks, individually and in-depth, in a series called Sleeper Comedies Of The 1980s . How does this catch you: A late 80s, smart teen comedy that's John Hughes-ish in feel and Tim Burton-like in inventiveness, with a few sight gags and other absurdities wedged … [Read more...] about How I Got Into College: Revisiting the Sleeper Comedies of the 1980s
The Courier Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch’s ’60s-Era Spy Comes to Theaters This March
We have a brand new trailer for The Courier . While many big, flashy movies were delayed in 2020, this is one that managed to slip under the radar a bit despite having a cast led by Benedict Cumberbatch ( Doctor Strange , The Imitation Game ) and Rachel Brosnahan ( House of Cards , The Marvelous Ms. Maisel ). But after being pushed back a couple of times, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are finally gearing up to release the spy/thriller this March. And this new trailer gives us a look at Cumberbatch as an unlikely 60s era spy. The trailer opens in London circa 1960. We see Benedict Cumberbatch's character Greville Wynne, a crusty salesman who ends up getting an unexpected call from some government spies. Because he is merely a civilian, there is less reason for the KGB to suspect that he is a spy. As such, he is recruited to do exactly that; spy on the Russian government. The stakes are high as tensions between Russia and the rest of the world rise. This … [Read more...] about The Courier Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch’s ’60s-Era Spy Comes to Theaters This March
