The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today that it won’t take any action to revoke Andrea Riseborough ’s Oscar nomination for To Leslie . “The Academy has determined the activity in question does not rise to the level that the film’s nomination should be rescinded,” AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer said in a statement (read it below). The Academy had been conducting a review of the campaign procedures around this year’s Oscar nominees — a reaction to Riseborough’s left-field, grassroots nomination for her little-seen film. She received a groundswell of support from fellow actors in the weeks leading up to January 24 nominations. AMPAS also said last week that it was mulling “whether changes to the guidelines may be needed in a new era of social media and digital communication.” To Leslie took in a little over $27,000 during its brief theatrical release in October, making it among the lowest-grossing movies ever to score an Oscar nom. ‘Pathaan’ Director Siddharth Anand On Film’s Success, Bollywood Action Cinema & Future Projects
Yash Raj Films ’ action thriller Pathaan , starring Shah Rukh Khan , is shattering box office records, grossing 591 crore rupees ($73.6M) worldwide in just six days, with an impressive $27.56M coming from overseas. It’s a huge relief for the Bollywood film industry, which has had a string of flops or almost hits over the past few years, and disproves industry fears that the rise of OTT in India has killed the cinema star. Khan is back bigger than ever in his first major release since Zero in 2018. Deepika Padukone and John Abraham also star in the film, about an exiled spy working to take down a rogue agent who plans to release a deadly lab-generated virus across India. Pathaan director Siddharth Anand sat down with Deadline to discuss the film’s success, future projects and the development of action cinema in India. Anand’s credits also include War , starring Hrithik Roshan, a big hit in 2019, which along with Pathaan and the Tiger films starring Salman … [Read more...] about ‘Pathaan’ Director Siddharth Anand On Film’s Success, Bollywood Action Cinema & Future Projects

DC Bosses “Didn’t Fire” Henry Cavill; Talk Fate Of Robert Pattinson, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Filmmakers & More In New Universe
When new DC Co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran took their new posts last fall, there was a lot of agita in town with their swift decisions. This included the axing of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 , pausing the future of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and subtracting Henry Cavill from their new Superman Legacy movie after the actor (with Warner Bros) announced his return on social as the Man of Steel and appeared in Black Adam . Rumors promptly swirled that Gunn and Safran were hellbent on decimating the previous DC Snyderverse, which included recasting the actors who portrayed the comic book’s biggest superheroes, i.e. Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ), Aquaman ( Jason Momoa ), Shazam ( Zachary Levi ) and more. Quelling that fire, Safran said Monday that the door is still open to do more with those actors in their DC roles. ‘Peacemaker’ Spinoff Series ‘Waller’ With Viola Davis A Go, ‘Doom Patrol’ Creator Jeremy Carver Joins As Scribe
Far from a surprise, DC co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that Waller , the spinoff of their Suicide Squad HBO Max series Peacemaker , was one of the first TV shows they’ll be hatching under their new DC universe, Chapter One, “Gods and Monsters.” The series centers on the mercurial and political Amanda Waller (Oscar winner Viola Davis ), who is a senior civil servant and director of ARGUS. She established the Suicide Squad, in her quest to assemble a team of expendable metahumans who would be used to execute covert operations against dangerous threats. While it already had been out there that Watchmen EP Christal Henry would be writing and executive producing, Gunn and Safran announced that Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver is joining her to write Waller. M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Knock At The Cabin’ To Knock ‘Avatar 2’ Out Of No. 1 Spot – Box Office Preview
After reigning over the box office for the past seven weekends, 20th Century Studios/Disney/Lightstorm’s four-time Oscar-nominated Avatar: The Way of Water will cede No. 1 to Universal’s M. Night Shyamalan thriller Knock at the Cabin , which is set to do $15 million-$17 million per tracking sources at 3,600 theaters. Reviews haven’t hit yet on the feature take of Paul Tremblay’s national bestseller The Cabin at the End of the World , and we won’t know until we’re in the thick of the weekend with audience exits whether this pic over-indexes or not. The better the surprise in a Shyamalan ending, the better the box office. Helping Knock at the Cabin ‘s ticket sales are Uni’s grab of PLF and Dolby auditoriums. The movie follows a girl and her parents who are taken hostage during their vacation by armed strangers who demand that the family make a choice to avert the apocalypse.
