There is one sacred tradition at the Golden Globes : Nobody gives a rat’s ass who wins, because the awards are given by the laughably cred-free Hollywood Foreign Press Association. But the other Golden Globes tradition is the movie stars show up anyway, because they can’t resist the combo of free booze and camera time. So last night the Beverly Hills Hilton was wall-to-wall celebrities , all trying to get as wasted as whoever did Helen Mirren’s hair. As Amy Poehler and Tina Fey proclaimed in their brilliant opening monologue, “You can smell the pills from here!” Thanks to Fey and Poehler, it was a surprisingly excellent Golden Globes bash. These ladies are so smiley and charming, they can get away with even nastier barbs than Ricky Gervais did last year. George Clooney will receive the Cinema Audio Society ’s Filmmaker Award during the virtual 57th annual CAS Awards ceremony on April 17. “George embodies a strength of character that not only shows in the integrity and preeminence of his works but in the way he regards and is regarded by his creative teams and collaborators,” said CAS president Karol Urban. “In such a time of uncertainty, his hardworking, innovative, and generous demeanor and body of exceptional films and television projects makes him an especially exemplary filmmaker for 2020.” Clooney is a two-time Oscar winner for producing Best Picture winner Argo (2012) and starring in Syriana (2005). Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton-founded production company Dirty Films has entered into a first-look feature production deal with a production and financing company New Republic Pictures , led by founder Brian Oliver and president Bradley Fischer. Dirty Film is the executive producer of the new FX series, Mrs. America , as well as co-created and executive producer of the limited series Stateless , which first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, will launch globally on Netflix next month. The independent film and television production company has also announced that Los Angeles-based producer Coco Francini, who currently serves as an executive producer on Mrs. America, will join as a partner. Most recently, Francini was an executive at Activision Blizzard Studios and previously served as EVP at Stacey Sher’s Shiny Penny . That may not necessarily be true, as the WWII epic Dunkirk has possibly locked in one of this generation's biggest stars. And it's a casting announcement that will surely surprise some of Christopher Nolan 's most hardcore fans. The iconic filmmaker behind The Dark Knight trilogy is rumored to have recruited One Direction singer and certified heartthrob Harry Styles to help lead his army of young soldiers in this true-life tale.
