‘You People’ Debuts At No. 1 On Netflix Top 10 Film List; ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Still Reigns Supreme For TV

Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill’s romantic comedy You People debuted at the top of the Netflix English-language film list for the week of January 23 to January 29. The film, in which Hill also stars alongside Eddie Murphy, racked up 55.65M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer. That put it leaps and bounds above the No. 2 spot, which went to the Lily Collins-led thriller Inheritance with 11.6M hours viewed. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is still sitting in the No. 3 spot, putting up another 9.7M hours viewed. Also on the list were Puss in Boots, Devotion, Dog Gone, Pale Blue Eye, Sing, Matilda the Musical and Trolls. While it didn’t make it onto the Top 10 in the U.S., Netflix also says that All Quiet on the Western Front received a bit of an Oscars buzz boost, with viewership increasing 190% over the previous week. Hasan Minhaj To Host This Year’s Independent Spirit Awards Ceremony

Hasan Minhaj has been tapped to host the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards , which are set to take place March 4 in Santa Monica. The annual indie-focused awards show will stream live on IMDb, Film Independent’s YouTube channel and other platforms beginning at 2 p.m. PT. “With his unparalleled ability to bring both humor and perception to the issues around us, Hasan Minhaj is the ideal host to help us celebrate these independent artists,” Film Independent president Josh Welsh said Tuesday. “We can’t wait to see what surprises he has in store for the Spirit Awards on March 4th.” Last year, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman co-hosted the ceremony, at which Netflix’s The Lost Daughter scored a leading three wins including Best Feature. EXCLUSIVE : As Trevor Noah puts The Daily Show behind him, his production company has made a number of executive changes on the television side. Noah’s Day Zero Productions has hired Chloe Ifshin as VP of Scripted Television and Eugene Han as Head of Unscripted Development. It comes after the departures of Devon Quinn and Ashley Dizon and as its television slate is ramping up with projects such as The Turning Point for MSNBC, For All Humankind for Discovery+, and Kid of the Year for Nickelodeon. The company is also developing a scripted series adaptation of Kiese Laymon’s novel Long Division. Quinn, a former Marvel TV exec, was previously SVP, Television, overseeing live-action and animated TV development and production.
