Opinion: Maintaining happy status quo between generations of car DIYers

April 14, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

Opinion Motoring editor Andy Russell still has his box of basic tools and bits from 40 years ago for fixing issues on his car. Picture: Andy Russell Andy russell A special find while spring cleaning the garage brought back happy car maintenance memories for motoring editor Andy Russell. Regular readers may recall I recently gave the garage a spring clean, tidying the trash and clearing the clutter. It still looks pristine although I’m having trouble finding things that are no longer where I usually leave them! What I did find though was a small metal box, stamped with W and D and a broad arrow signifying War Department, which was key to launching me on the road to freedom. My late great uncle Ben, a second world war 8th Army Desert Rat and mechanic who went on to run a big company’s in-house garage, had given it to me when I first started driving 40 years ago. It wasn’t very big but it was carefully packed with everything I needed for simple roadside fixes … [Read more...] about Opinion: Maintaining happy status quo between generations of car DIYers

Jennifer Rubin, The Washington Post Published 7:52 am, Tuesday, April 10, 2018 Now Playing: President Trump continued his criticism of the FBI raid of the office of Michael Cohen. Media: GeoBeats In an extraordinary series of events, the FBI executed a no-knock raid on President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen's office, home and hotel. The president, seated alongside his top military and civilian national security advisers to discuss a response to the Syrians' use of chemical weapons, launched into a rant in which he did not rule out firing special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, accused law enforcement of bias, whined that Hillary Clinton was not being prosecuted, suggested Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein had behaved improperly in signing off on the Foreign Intelligence Amendment Act (FISA) warrant to conduct surveillance on Carter Page, railed again at Attorney General Jeff Sessions for not recusing himself (and thereby allowing the … [Read more...] about Opinion: Trump melts down after Cohen raid

OPINION: Are there enough beds in our NHS?

April 5, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

Opinion Generic stock photo of a nurse on a ward. Photo: Rui Vieira/PA Wire Archant It’s been another tumultuous week for the region’s mental health trust, as over the border in Suffolk there was an announcement that inpatient beds would be closed on Lark ward, at Ipswich Hospital. There is a lot of talk in health at the moment about keeping people out of hospital, in the community. This isn’t only in mental health care - in an interview with the boss of Norfolk’s new drug and alcohol service published in this newspaper today, she points towards more community care. And over recent years hospitals have reduced their bed numbers as research showed patients recovered better at home with the right care and support in place. But then what happens when someone does need a bed and there are none available? We’ve seen this happen with tragic consequences in the past, and just last week a stroke patient from Northrepps was asked to move to a day room so … [Read more...] about OPINION: Are there enough beds in our NHS?

ReelBlend Podcast #15: Tom Hanks’ Best Performance, And Sean’s Unpopular Lord Of The Rings Opinion

April 4, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

5 minutes ago Tom Hanks is an American treasure. Tom Hanks is a two-time Academy Award winner for Best Actor. Tom Hanks is freaking Woody, from the beloved Toy Story franchise! But what is Tom Hanks' BEST performance? This is the challenge laid down before the co-hosts of ReelBlend -- Sean O'Connell, Kevin McCarthy and Jake Hamilton. Which Hanks movie did they choose? This has been a recurring, and entertaining, game played by the hosts of ReelBlend, a weekly podcast that's conducted LIVE on CinemaBlend's Facebook page that everyone else can find here (on the site) or on the usual podcast stream portals. On this week's episode, the guys discuss Ready Player One's opening weekend box office, the news that Colin Trevorrow has been hired for Jurassic World 3, and the request by the Russo Brothers for Marvel fans to maintain spoiler silence on social media for Avengers: Infinity War. Good luck to them on that. After, the boys introduce a new segment that likely will become a … [Read more...] about ReelBlend Podcast #15: Tom Hanks’ Best Performance, And Sean’s Unpopular Lord Of The Rings Opinion
