Lola Muñoz has explained the meaning of the “The Ketchup Song” more times than she can count, but she’ll try once more: “The song,” says the singer — one of three sisters, alongside Lucía and Pilar, who make up the Spanish pop trio Las Ketchup — “is about Diego, not us.” Diego is the drunk, hip-hop-loving protagonist of the song, the oddball 2002 Las Ketchup track (originally titled “Aserejé”) that hit Number One in two dozen countries, anchored a four-times platinum album, and eventually spawned the biggest novelty dance craze since the Macarena. At the center of the song’s pre-YouTube-era virality was the trio’s choreographed dance, seen in the video, to its gibberish chorus (roughly: “ aserejé-ja-dejé …”). But what many English-speaking “Ketchup Song” fans may have never realized is that the chorus is itself a nonsensical mangling of the refrain from another classic record: “Rapper’s Delight,” the Sugarhill Gang’s pioneering 1979 hip-hop classic. “Diego likes … [Read more...] about ‘I Think We Opened Doors’: Las Ketchup Look Back on ‘The Ketchup Song’ at 20

Winona Ryder Opens Her Diary
W inona Ryder thinks reading me her diaries is a dreadful idea. I beg her in the name of science, medicine and anything else I can think of. We talk it over. And over. I tell her she would be giving a gift to the readers – something pure, unfiltered, straight from the mountain spring. She tells me that hauling out those spiral notebooks would be “the cheesiest, tackiest thing in the world.” Still, she mulls it over. For weeks, she says neither yes nor no. Instead, I get the message you occasionally get from those old Magic 8 Balls: REPLY HAZY, TRY AGAIN. On New Year’s Day, Ryder calls from her place in New York, and this time the Magic 8 Ball says, incredibly, SIGNS POINT TO YES. The 22-year-old actress lives in a gorgeous, stately apartment building in Manhattan – an ocean liner drifting through a gray and dingy neighborhood. Tonight, Ryder’s friend Kevin Haley and her boyfriend, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, are downstairs cooking dinner. The actress is in her bedroom, sipping tea … [Read more...] about Winona Ryder Opens Her Diary

“Thank you. Thank you very, very much. I’m not going to talk about it,” actor-comedian Jerrod Carmichael said up top, in his first opening monologue as host of SNL . “ I want to be clear up top: I’ve talked about it enough, kept talking about it, kept thinking about it. I don’t want to talk about it, and you can’t make me talk about it.” While Carmichael seemed at first to be referencing the fact that he’d recently come out as gay in his new HBO comedy special, Rothaniel , it turns out that he was, in fact, more than happy to address that particular situation. Carmichael said he hopes people will watch the special and referenced coming out, to cheers from the crowd, which he called “an expected response” in New York. “It’s actually why I live here. If you say you’re gay in New York, you can ride the bus for free and people just give you pizza. Chris Pratt Says He Never Went To Controversial Church, Reveals Where He Does Worship
“I never went to Hillsong,” Chris Pratt says of the controversial church in a Men’s Health cover story published today. “I’ve never actually been to Hillsong. I don’t know anyone from that church.” Those are among the Jurassic World: Dominion star’s most definitive comments since he became a sort-of symbol for Christianity in Hollywood. Pratt traces people associating him with the town’s young evangelical movement to an acceptance speech at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards in which he said, “God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that; I do.” Perhaps the use of the word “you” and the command “Believe that; I do” were a little too evangelical for some. Pratt admits as much to Men’s Health. “Maybe it was hubris for me to stand up on the stage and say the things that I said. I’m not sure I touched anybody.” In 2019, after Pratt went on The Late Show and spoke with Stephen Colbert about his faith, Elliot Page tweeted, “Oh. K. Um. But … [Read more...] about Chris Pratt Says He Never Went To Controversial Church, Reveals Where He Does Worship
