The surrealistic story of an alien encounter with Shins frontman James Mercer and Danger Mouse – a.k.a. indie-pop duo Broken Bells – continues in “Holding on for Life,” the second part of director Jacob Gentry’s film short, After the Disco . The new clip picks up after the closing scene of Part One, “Angel and the Fool,” but only snippets of the tune come through as actor Anton Yelchin ( Star Trek , Fright Night ) and actress Kate Mara ( House of Cards , 127 Hours ) attempt to figure out just what the hell is happening to them. Broken Bells’ ‘Vaporize’ and 14 More of the Greatest Stoner Songs The seven-minute clip intercuts scenes from a party with those of Helen (Mara) readying herself by putting makeup on in a mirror and staring at her space-helmet, thinking back to the last episode when Oliver found her in on a rocky landscape. She eventually makes it to the dance (she passes Mr. Mercer and Mr. Mouse’s couture test with flying colors) only to find out … [Read more...] about Broken Bells Throw a Space Party in New ‘After the Disco’ Video

Margaret Keane Dies: Kitschy ‘Big Eyes’ Artist, Subject Of Tim Burton Biopic Was 94
Margaret Keane , whose wildly popular paintings of big-eyed, melancholy children (and later celebrities with deep pockets) became one of the most widely recognized signature artistic styles of the late 20th Century – and whose long battle with her husband over his fraudulent and lucrative claims of authorship inspired the 2014 Tim Burton film Big Eyes starring Amy Adams – died Sunday at home in Napa, California. She was 94. Her death was reported on her official Facebook page today: “We’re sad to announce that Margaret Keane, ‘The Mother of Big Eyes, our Queen, a Modern Master and Legend’ peacefully passed away Sunday morning at her home in Napa, CA, she was 94.” Her daughter Jane Swigert told The New York Times that the cause of death was heart failure. Keane’s instantly recognizable paintings of children, typically portrayed and described as waifs with huge, sad and dinner-plate-sized eyes, became massively popular in the 1950s and ’60s, at first sincerely … [Read more...] about Margaret Keane Dies: Kitschy ‘Big Eyes’ Artist, Subject Of Tim Burton Biopic Was 94

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Answers Your Twitter Questions
Although Red Hot Chili Peppers member Chad Smith and his doppelgänger Will Ferrell may have spent much of 2014 trying to prove how different they are from one another, with their hilarious competition on The Tonight Show , the drummer does have something in common with the actor: he’s very funny. As Rolling Stone read the drummer the questions fans sent in via Twitter, he cracked wise about everything from the Chili Peppers’ penchant for wearing socks on their private parts to how Ferrell “robbed” him of the Golden Cowbell during his drum-off with the actor this year. Over the past quarter century, Smith has played with the Chili Peppers, the supergroup Chickenfoot and various sessions with the likes of Kid Rock, the Dixie Chicks and Johnny Cash. And, with an eye toward helping other musicians, he has also spent time lobbying for music education in Washington, D.C. – including a recent trip to the White House – and building a drum community with his Chad Smith Drum … [Read more...] about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Answers Your Twitter Questions
Verve Promotes Noah Liebmiller & Jessica Zou To Agents
EXCLUSIVE: Verve has upped coordinators Jessica Zou and Noah Liebmiller to Agents in the Motion Picture Literary Team. The agency, which has a tradition of surprising staffers with promotions, last week tasked Liebmiller and Zou with putting together a video as part of a signing exercise. I understand they were told that the video was not only important but needed to convey the theatrical gravitas of the signing pursuit. During a recent all-company staff meeting, the video was played to great reception and the promotions were announced by the co-heads of the Motion Picture Lit Team who reflected on how deserving both Liebmiller and Zou were of their new titles. Zou, who holds a Master’s in Communications from USC, began her career in the UTA mailroom before joining Verve in February 2020 where she worked for Motion Picture Lit Agents Pamela Goldstein and Sara Nestor. Liebmiller, a Middlebury College graduate and another homegrown agent, joined Verve’s mailroom in … [Read more...] about Verve Promotes Noah Liebmiller & Jessica Zou To Agents

Julia Roberts and George Clooney reunite for some vintage rom-com magic in the new trailer for their upcoming movie, Ticket to Paradise , set to arrive Oct. 21. Directed by Mama Mia! Here We Go Again filmmaker Ol Parker, Ticket to Paradise boasts a classic set-up: Roberts and Clooney play a divorced couple who reluctantly agree to join forces as they fly to Bali to stop their head-over-heels daughter from marrying young and making the same mistake they did. It goes without saying that hijinks ensue. The trailer is packed with all the good stuff as Roberts and Clooney quibble and sling one-liners back-and-forth as they try to enact their plan. But it also goes without saying that the former couple also learns to enjoy each other’s company again as they mortify their daughter by dancing to House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” and prove they’ve still got a knack for drinking games. Ticket to Paradise also stars Billie Lourd, Kaitlyn Dever, and Lucas Bravo.
