De Blasio blasts Daily News report on his Brooklyn-Queens streetcar proposal’s unclear future
Mayor de Blasio on Friday ripped the Daily News for reporting that the city may not move forward with his plans for a pricey waterfront streetcar — but didn’t refute that the project could stall for lack of funding. Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen herself said the proposed Brooklyn-Queens streetcar, dubbed the BQX, could be shelved if studies show it won’t be able to pay for itself by spurring new developments and property tax revenue, as The News reported Tuesday. “Assuming that it does not pay for itself ... then we have to decide whether or not this is the right use of capital money for a transportation project,” Glen said after her talk at NYU Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management.
