BBC News’ journalists failure to understand “basic economics” is bringing a “high risk to impartiality,” according to a BBC-commissioned report. The finding was contained in the first BBC impartiality review, of which several more will be published over the coming months. Since taking on the role in September 2020, BBC Director General Tim Davie has prioritized overcoming issues with impartiality at a time when the corporation is under the government spotlight. Today’s Review of the impartiality of BBC coverage of taxation, public spending, government borrowing and debt judged BBC News innocent of displaying deliberate political bias but highlighted several pitfalls. Responding, the BBC Board said Davie and his team will address the issues presented in the review with a proposed action plan. CNN will start showing the post-show Overtime segments from HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher as part of its Friday edition of CNN Tonight . The segments will start this Friday at 11:30 PM ET. The Overtime segments have up to now been posted online and promoted to viewers of Real Time . They feature Maher and his guests continuing their discussion on a range of topics and answering viewer questions. The scheduling of the segments is the latest move by CNN Worldwide chairman and CEO Chris Licht to bolster the network’s primetime and late-night lineup. He has not yet named a permanent show for the 9 PM ET timeslot, and sources say that one of the ideas considered has been to schedule a non-traditional host, such as a comedian, for that time period. Disney star Zoey Deutch -- the daughter of " Back to the Future " actress Lea Thompson -- raked in $25,000 for her first ever network acting gig ... but the gravy train came to a screeching halt because the show got canned before it ever aired. TMZ has obtained a copy of Zoey's contract for an ABC pilot entitled " Hallelujah " -- filed recently in L.A. County Superior Court -- and if you haven't heard about the show, don't worry ... it never got picked up. Sources connected with the Charlie Sheen case tell TMZ the plea bargain is still a 50/50 toss up, hours before today's court hearing ... but one thing is certain -- Charlie will not do jail time. Sources tell TMZ there are two options on the table between Charlie's lawyer, Yale Galanter , and prosecutors. We're told neither option includes jail time, and very little or no probation.
