Bob Dylan ’s new studio recording of his classic, “Blowin’ in the Wind,” made on a new recording format pioneered by T Bone Burnett , will be auctioned off at Christie’s in London on July 7. The one-of-a-kind recording has an estimated price of £600,000 to £1 million, or about $752,000 to $1.2 million. The lot is also billed as Dylan’s first studio recording of “Blowin’ in the Wind” since it was originally recorded in 1962. The song was officially released on The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan in 1963, but recorded on July 9, 1962 — meaning the Christie’s auction will take place two days before the 60th anniversary of the song’s recording. On top of all that, Dylan’s new version of “Blowin’ in the Wind” was recorded during a special session with Burnett and pressed on the producer’s new “Ionic Original” disc. Burnett announced the new recording format — and an accompanying company, NeoFidelity — last month, boasting that the quality of Ionic Originals far surpassed recordings issued … [Read more...] about Bob Dylan’s New Recording of ‘Blowin’ In the Wind’ Headed to Auction Before Song’s 60th Anniversary

How Upfronts 2022 Became Covid Superspreader Event
Late-night hosts are brought in by networks to provide comic relief at their upfront presentations. But turns out Seth Meyers was only half joking when he told the thousands who had packed Radio City Music Hall for NBCUniversal’s presentation, “What a historic room to be able to tell people you got Covid in.” Ten days later, Covid cases are sweeping through the ranks of those who attended the marathon of events in New York last week. Top-level executives at virtually all of the major networks and studios have been impacted, along with support staff that worked on the presentations as well as media buyers and reporters who attended the string of events. The subject is inevitably brought up in every conversation this week that involves someone who had been at the upfronts amid what is likely the largest Covid outbreak in the senior ranks of the TV industry since the start of the pandemic. The first in-person upfronts in three years turning into a superspreader … [Read more...] about How Upfronts 2022 Became Covid Superspreader Event

Seven Ideal Locations to Build Your Culture-Based Business
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. While many businesses are moving online, there are many others that thrive by being location-based. Those in the culture space especially — businesses centered around media, food, music, fashion, art and more — can benefit from planting roots in a particular environment or local hot spot, whether it’s to plug in to the existing culture or to gain a certain customer base. Below, the members of Rolling Stone Culture Council discuss where they would get their start if they were opening new culture-based businesses today and why they recommend others consider these ideal locations too. Kevin Spacey, James Franco, and More Are Trying to Make Comebacks at Cannes
From a cramped hotel suite in a luxury Cannes hotel, a pair of film executives are trying to pull off an unlikely feat: Sell distribution rights to Kevin Spacey ’s comeback film. On May 17, Vantage Media International, or VMI, a Hollywood-based company that sells movies primarily to foreign markets, screened a finished print of the noir drama Peter Five Eight to would-be buyers willing to take a gamble on the two-time Oscar winner’s first leading role since his career came to a grinding halt in 2017 amid accusations of sexual misconduct. “The feedback is very good. People say it’s a quality film,” says VMI president of sales J.D. Beuafils. “But it’s really, really early on [in the deal-making].” In a room filled with marketing materials for VMI films like Randy Rhoads: Reflections of a Guitar Icon and the Sam Worthington-Machine Gun Kelly Western The Last Son , the company’s COO Jessica Bennett offers an equally vague assessment when asked if the … [Read more...] about Kevin Spacey, James Franco, and More Are Trying to Make Comebacks at Cannes
Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
“What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” This is how Hershel Walker responded on Tuesday night when asked about gun control in the wake of a shooter killing 21 people, including 19 children, at an Uvalde, Texas, elementary school hours earlier. Asked if he believes there should be new gun laws in the wake of the Texas shooting, Georgia Senate GOP nominee Herschel Walker told me in ATL: “What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” He didn’t engage further. pic.twitter.com/wpsAZ7yKP5 — Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 25, 2022 The hollow incoherence on display here is sadly typical of the man Georgia’s Republican voters just deemed worthy of representing them in the Congress. Walker is best known for his Heisman Award-winning turn at the University of Georgia, followed by a relatively lackluster career in the NFL. He hasn’t done much since that would indicate he’d be a capable public servant. He has, however, pledged his allegiance to Trump and … [Read more...] about Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
