Idles Capture the ‘Monotony Hell’ of Working to Survive in ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ Video
British punks Idles offer a visual metaphor for the drudgery of a life spent living and working within a ceaselessly churning machine in the new music video for “Stockholm syndrome.” Directed by Charlotte Gosch, the clip follows two young kids who stumble upon a strange scene in the desert: A mysterious troupe wearing all-black outfits and masks, passing large pink rocks back and forth in a strange, mesmerizing, practically choreographed way. The clip ends suddenly with the two kids finding themselves trapped in the center of this bizarre process. In a statement, Gosch and Idles guitarist Lee Kiernan said, “The initial idea of the video was to try and visualize the monotony hell of having to work to survive and how the ‘machine’ eventually engulfs you and strips you of your freedoms. But we wanted to achieve this in a metaphorical way that kept the meaning as open as possible. So it becomes rather a visual representation that can be read in many different ways.” … [Read more...] about Idles Capture the ‘Monotony Hell’ of Working to Survive in ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ Video
Beavis and Butt-Head Prepping Hot Takes on Olivia Rodrigo, Post Malone Videos — But They Love BTS
Beavis and Butt-Head , the ultimate slacker critics, are returning and ready to drop some fiery hot takes on all the biggest pop stars of the day. According to Pitchfork , the show’s new episodes will feature music videos from the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Post Malone, Camila Cabello, Tyler, the Creator, CNCO, and Cale Dodds. Beavis and Butt-Head will even discuss BTS — a bold move, to say the least, in the era of super stans — though they may be spared Army’s wrath as Beavis reportedly reveals that he’s a fan of the Korean outfit in the show’s second episode. Series creator Mike Judge — who also voices Beavis and Butt-Head — noted to The Hollywood Reporter that Beavis’ BTS stan-dom is based on his own appreciation for the group. “BTS is a guilty pleasure — but maybe not even that guilty: I like them,” he said. “I have pretty mainstream tastes. I think because I used to be a musician, people think I’m going to be a music snob. I’m not at all. I like a lot of very sugary … [Read more...] about Beavis and Butt-Head Prepping Hot Takes on Olivia Rodrigo, Post Malone Videos — But They Love BTS
John Moreland Challenges Longtime Fans on New Album ‘Birds in the Ceiling.’ He’s OK With That
John Moreland can hardly remember writing many of the lyrics to his new album Birds in the Ceiling . That’s because in the early months of the pandemic, the Oklahoma singer-songwriter found himself settling into a new songwriting routine: After his wife went to sleep, starting around midnight, Moreland would light up a joint, turn the lights off, and begin watching YouTube videos by the user Rambalac , who films himself taking long walks around Tokyo at night. A few hours later, Moreland would look up and he had written a new song. Moreland was drawn to the walking videos because he was unsure if he’d ever travel again. At the time, that was fine by him. Touring had become a real drain for the singer at that point: “I had too many people around, and they weren’t the right people,” he says obliquely. “It got kind of shitty there for a while.” Moreland had also just released a new album, LP5, a transitional collection he released in the wake of his deal with … [Read more...] about John Moreland Challenges Longtime Fans on New Album ‘Birds in the Ceiling.’ He’s OK With That

Kelsea Ballerini has an appreciation for “The Little Things,” which the country singer-songwriter denotes in her newest song. Ballerini released the track, which appears on her upcoming album Subject to Change , on Friday. A breezy, uptempo tune with bright acoustic guitar strums, “The Little Things” seems to be geared for those sunny, car windows-down listening experiences. “When you need to pull me closer/When you need to give me my space,” she sings, listing out the reasons she loves a certain someone. “The Little Things” is the third song to be released from Ballerini’s new album, which arrives Sept. 23. In July, she put out the western-themed “ Love Is a Cowboy ,” and before that the earnest chronicle of young love in “ Heartfirst .” In the last couple of years, Ballerini has enjoyed a huge hit with “Half of My Hometown,” her duet with Kenny Chesney, and scored nominations for ACM and CMA Awards. In April, she co-hosted the CMT Awards, though was forced to do it from … [Read more...] about Kelsea Ballerini Sings the Praises of ‘The Little Things’ in Breezy New Song

London outfit the Big Pink have released another new song, “Rage,” which will appear on their first album in 10 years, The Love That’s Ours , out Sept. 30 via Project Melody Music. “Rage” is a steady, shimmering bit of immersive shoegaze balanced by some energetic jolts, like the clattering drums and the way singer/guitarist Robbie Furze sings the chorus, “So rage/Against the day/You know there is no wasted time/I know I’m not wasting mine.” ‘Rage” also arrives with a music video directed by Irmak Altiner. Jessie Ware Leads By Example in Self-Love Championing ‘Free Yourself’ Video
Jessie Ware is a self-love championing leader in the lively music video for her latest single, “ Free Yourself .” The Vicky Lawton-directed video casts the singer as a vessel for uninhibited self-expression, arriving in an attention-demanding, bold red gown to guide a collection of colorless students through finding their own boldness. “Free yourself/ Keep on moving up that mountaintop/ Why don’t you/ Please yourself/ If it feels so good then don’t you stop,” Ware lectures as an average dining room table transforms into a runway for her newly liberated students. ” ‘Free Yourself’ is the beginning of a new era for me,” Ware shared in a statement. “I’m so excited for people to have this song for the end of their summer; to dance, to feel no inhibitions & to feel joyful because that’s how I’ve been feeling recently being able to tour again and being able to sing again. Enjoy yourself, Free Yourself!” “Free Yourself” is set to appear on Ware’s forthcoming fifth studio album, … [Read more...] about Jessie Ware Leads By Example in Self-Love Championing ‘Free Yourself’ Video
Mötley Crüe Confused for Their Hair Metal Parody Foes Steel Panther on Prime Video Doc Poster
During those hazy, heady, hair-heavy days of glam metal in the Eighties, one could maybe be forgiven for occasionally mistaking one massive-mulleted band for another at first glance. But 40 years later, it looks like Amazon Prime Video has committed the victimless — but instantly meme-able — sin of not just confusing two groups, but two groups from two completely different eras also don’t exactly have the best relationship: The poster for the 2020 doc Rock ‘n Roll Icon: Mötley Crüe does not feature a photo of Mötley Crüe, but rather contemporary hair metal revivalists/satirists, Steel Panther . The mix-up was spotted by a Steel Panther fan, who shared a video on Instagram that was recirculated by Steel Panther frontman Michael Starr. Steel Panther also joked about the incorrect photo on Twitter , quipping, “Just to be clear, that new documentary about us on @PrimeVideo is completely unauthorized and full of falsehoods. They didn’t even talk to us.” … [Read more...] about Mötley Crüe Confused for Their Hair Metal Parody Foes Steel Panther on Prime Video Doc Poster
