Aretha Franklin canceled a pair of upcoming concerts, including a headlining gig at New Orleans’ Jazz Fest , after her doctor recommended that the Queen of Soul take a break from touring. “ Aretha Franklin has been ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest completely for at least the next two months,” Franklin’s management sent in a statement. “She is extremely disappointed she cannot perform at this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as she had expected and hoped to.” Franklin was scheduled to perform April 28th at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest; organizers announced Friday that Rod Stewart will now fill in for Franklin in that Saturday night slot. UPDATE: Organizers announced Friday that Aretha Franklin had canceled her April 28th headlining slot after the singer’s doctor ordered her to rest for at least two months. Jazz Fest then revealed that Rod Stewart would take over Franklin’s slot at the festival. Aretha Franklin , Aerosmith , Jack White , Sting and Beck top the stacked lineup for the 2018 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival . The annual event will take place over two weekends, April 27th through 29th, and May 3rd through 6th. Short films by both Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar have qualified for the Academy Awards ’ best live action short category. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Swift’s All Too Well: A Short Film , written and directed by the singer, gained eligibility because it screened Nov. 2021 at New York’s AMC Lincoln Square; the window for eligibility in the live action short category for the 2023 Oscars runs from Oct. 1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2022. Lamar became eligible for the category when he quietly screened a six-minute video for his Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers track “We Cry Together” — a song and visual that featured actress Taylour Paige — at Los Angeles’ Laemmle Royal Theater in June. Aretha Franklin intends to drastically reduce the frequency of her performances following the release of a new full-length in the fall. “I am retiring this year,” the singer told WDIV Local 4 in Detroit. “I will be recording, but this will be my last year in concert. This is it.” Franklin feels comfortable stepping away from active duty with her remarkable legacy intact. “I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now,” she noted. “I’ll be pretty much satisfied, but I’m not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing. Amy Grant suffered a concussion and was unconscious for ten minutes after falling during a July bike ride, according to reports. The singer announced Friday that her remaining tour dates for the summer and early fall would be postponed as a consequence. Initial reports indicated Grant suffered “cuts and abrasions” in her fall. News of the concussion puts a new spin on what occurred, and explains why an ambulance and the subsequent postponement of husband Vince Gill’s tour dates happened. “Friends, we regretfully need to postpone Amy’s previously scheduled tour dates in September and October due to Amy needing more time to recover from injuries and a concussionsustained in a bicycling accident that occurred in Nashville on July 27, 2022,” her team wrote in a statement.
